The Director of Marketing and Communications helps lead the strategic, comprehensive, and cohesive branding, marketing, and communications initiatives for Charles Armstrong School (Armstrong). This position executes internal and external messaging, ensuring that the school's mission, academic offerings, and community programs are effectively communicated to prospective families, current parents, alumni, and the broader community to support enrollment, advancement, and outreach goals.
Armstrong is a unique, co-educational independent school serving approximately 240 children with dyslexia and related learning differences in grades 1-8 in Belmont, CA. Our robust, research-based program helps unlock the unique potential of these students, transforming their lives and the lives of their families.
Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Marketing & Brand Management: Develop and implement an annual marketing plan to raise public awareness, boost enrollment, and increase retention. Ensure consistent, high-quality branding--both in writing and visually--across all school platforms, including social media, print, and website.
Digital & Content Strategy: Manage the school’s website, social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), and digital advertising campaigns. Capture, create, and curate compelling, mission-aligned, and engaging content (written, photo, and video).
External&InternalCommunications:Act as the primary creator, editor, and project manager for all school publications, including the viewbook, weekly newsletters, advertising, push communications, invitations, and other vehicles.
Outreach Coordinator: Help determine the school’s outreach strategy and implement programs, communications, and activities that enhance awareness of the school and dyslexia broadly and provide broader community bene?t, serving as many children with dyslexia as
Admissions&AdvancementFocus:Collaborate with the Admissions and Advancement to produce materials that support student recruitment, fundraising, and alumni engagement across all communication channels.
Budget & Vendor Management: Develop, manage, and monitor the marketing department budget. Manage relationships with outside vendors, including graphic designers, photographers, printers, and branded merchandise companies.
General Support: Provide general Advancement support as needed as a member a dynamic and collegial team.

Qualifcations:
Bachelor’s degree
3–5+ years of experience in marketing or communications, preferably in an independent school or non-proft setting
Proven ability to lead, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet strict deadlines
Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, design, and overall storytelling skills
Profciency in website content management systems (e.g., Blackbaud, Squarespace) and social media analytics tools
Working knowledge of graphic design and mailing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop; Canva; Constant Contact; Mailchimp)
