Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the HR Coordinator plays a key role in the daily operations of the Human Resources Office. This position serves as the front-facing representative for HR on campus and provides essential administrative and operational support across the department.
The HR Coordinator is often the first point of contact for employees and visitors, whether in person, by phone, or via email, and helps ensure that every interaction with HR is professional, helpful, and welcoming. While front-desk activity varies throughout the day, the position is fully integrated into HR operations and supports onboarding, payroll coordination, personnel processing, and general HR administration.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to the following:
Front-Facing & Customer Service Support
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Office of Human Resources, providing professional, courteous, and responsive front-desk coverage.
Answer phones, greet visitors, respond to general HR inquiries, and direct questions to appropriate HR staff.
Monitor shared HR inboxes, respond to routine inquiries, and escalate complex or policy-related matters as appropriate.
Onboarding & HR Operations Support
Support onboarding for new and returning full-time and part-time employees by preparing documentation, communicating next steps, and coordinating orientation activities.
Coordinate onboarding logistics with campus partners (IT, ID/Access Services, Parking, etc.) to help ensure a smooth start for employees.
Collect, review, and submit required employment and payroll documentation in accordance with CUNY and college guidelines.
Payroll & Personnel Processing
Assist with timesheet processing for faculty and staff, including collection, data entry, auditing, and resolving routine discrepancies.
Support personnel transactions such as appointments, salary and title changes, stipends, and one-time payments, ensuring accurate data entry and documentation.
Prepare routine employee correspondence, including employment verifications and responses to common HR requests.
Administrative & Team Support
Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records, including preparation of documents for electronic filing and records retention.
Assist HR professional staff with projects, communications, or other duties as assigned.
May supervise and train part-time support staff or student workers.
Participate as a collaborative member of the HR team, contributing to a positive, organized, and service-oriented office culture.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Administrative experience in Human Resources, higher education, or a customer-service-focused office environment.
Ability to perform core front-facing office functions and capacity to coordinate and oversee part-time staff
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact professionally, tactfully, and discreetly with a diverse campus community.
-Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing needs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High degree of Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe) and calendar functionality
Familiarity with HRIS systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Workday) and collaboration tools such as
Teams and Zoom is a plus.

$56,720 to $66,154. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Increase of 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
