This position is a 10-month appointment with anticipated start date of August 11th, 2026 (Will work with candidate on specific timeframe). Candidates must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Salary:
This position includes an hourly wage for $19 per hour with expectation that the successful candidate will work an average of 25 hours per week. Schedule is very flexible based around athletic events.

Overview: The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is one of the premier Division I schools in the country and one of four Division I schools in the state of Wisconsin. Currently, UWM offers 15 sports at the NCAA Division I level, with more than 300 student-athletes in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s volleyball, women’s tennis, and baseball.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate AD-Communications, this position will serve as a creative content/communications assistant in the athletics communications department. This position will have a split role in both the general communications area and content creation area. The weekly duties will involve being responsible for the publicity and media relations duties of its assigned sports. The media relations duties include weekly previews, game recaps, media guides/record books, website maintenance, press releases, statistical record-keeping and game day operations. This will also include the promotion of assigned sports to local/national media.
The other main area will be in the development, creation, and execution of social media content across departmental platforms, including producing short-form video, engaging graphics, and written content; capturing in-game and behind-the-scenes content; assisting with content calendars; and monitoring engagement and trends to enhance brand visibility and fan interaction.
Position would also help fulfill game day roles at volleyball, soccer, men’s basketball and women’s basketball, and baseball games as assigned (or needed) and other duties as assigned by the Associate AD-Communications.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, or combination of education and relevant work experience.Previous experience with Genius statistical software, as well as Adobe Suite, is highly preferred. Experience in communications, media relations, or public relations in collegiate or professional sports environment or a related field is also preferred.
Skills:
Demonstrated experience in producing short-form video, graphics and written content for platforms such as Instagram, X, and Tik Tok (samples to be provided during process). Additionally, candidate must demonstrate excellence with verbal and written communication skills (as evidenced by application materials and interviews, where applicable).
