The Lineworker position supports the construction, maintenance, and operation of the cooperative’s electric transmission and distribution system under the supervision of a senior lineworker or foreman. This role involves working on both overhead and underground lines in energized and de-energized environments, including installing and maintaining equipment such as transformers, regulators, and capacitors. The position requires physical work such as climbing poles and operating bucket trucks, while adhering to all safety and regulatory standards. Employees are also expected to respond to outages and continue developing skills toward advancement within the lineworker certification program.
Candidates must have knowledge of electrical hazards and linework materials, along with the ability to read and follow maps, work orders, and technical drawings. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to make quick decisions in high-risk situations are essential. Requirements include obtaining certifications such as CPR, first aid, and rescue training, maintaining a valid commercial driver’s license, and passing physical and drug screenings. The role also requires operating heavy equipment, maintaining good public relations, reliable transportation, and the ability to learn the cooperative’s system and policies while progressing toward journeyman-level competency.
