Job Summary The head coach will be responsible for the positive development of all aspects of a NCAA Division II softball program. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop a competitive softball program, recruit quality student athletes of good character, be committed to student athlete academic success, and have excellent communication, budgetary, and organizational skills. Strict adherence to NCAA Division II and MEC rules is required. This position will report to the Director of Athletics.
Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities for this dual role include, but are limited to: Maintain a competitive and successful program Monitor student-athlete academic work and progress toward a degree Maintain appropriate roster size through retention and recruiting Oversee the budget (maintain & stay within) Coordinate fundraising with Advancement to promote athletics Game-day responsibilities: prepare fields, secure officials, game-day personnel, etc. Assist with other sports game-day activities, as assigned Organization and Administration Student/Athlete Enrollment Management Player Development Practice & Game Management Represent the University on and off the field in a positive fashion. Maintain appropriate relationships and communicate appropriately with Alumni, SA’s, Team, Coaching Staff, Community, and Donors. Supervise Coaching Staff & Associated Support Staff Professional Involvement with Conference and National Sport Organizations Marketing/Public Relations/Fund Raising Liaison to the Faculty Athletic Representative(s) Game Management/Administration
Minimum Education
Bachelor's
Required Licenses/Certification
A master’s degree is preferred. It is preferred that the degree is in physical education, coaching education, sport management, or closely related field.
Required Skills
Clear understanding of NCAA Division II philosophy and the student-athlete experience.
Ability to work as a part of a team environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skill, motivation, people and problem solving skills are required.
Excellent organizational ability, high level of accuracy, attention to detail
Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and with minimal supervision.
