The Southern Arkansas University Athletic Department is seeking a qualified and energetic applicant to serve as an athletic communications graduate assistant for the 2025-26 academic year. The selected candidate will help market and promote the Muleriders’ 16 NCAA Division II athletic programs as well as other duties as assigned. SAU competes in the Great American Conference.
General Responsibilities
Assist the Athletic Communications Office with video and social media coverage as well as marketing and game day promotion of SAU games and special events.
Opportunity to produce video content, including but not limited to: highlight/hype videos, animations, interviews, feature stories, and management/creation of compelling content for social media distribution.
Maintain library/archive of video content.
Assist with management and archiving of photos, graphics, and video content.
Adhere to established internal social media guidelines.
Responsibilities could also include writing pre and post-game releases and contributing to the athletic department website (MuleriderAthletics.com).
Execute proper public communication when representing Southern Arkansas University online.
Work on nights and weekends will be required.
Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in a collegiate sports information office as a student or in any other capacity. The candidate must successfully be admitted to and enrolled in a graduate program at SAU prior to beginning employment. The position is renewable for a second year and includes a monthly stipend. The appointment will be nine months beginning in late August and running into May.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, public relations, sports administration, communications, journalism, graphic design or a related field
Excellent communication skills
Experience shooting and editing video (Adobe Creative software - Premiere and After Effects)
Ability to produce short-form, eye-catching “hype videos” for social media distribution, utilizing special effects and creative editing; experience conducting interviews or working on live productions a plus
Knowledge of and experience with current social media platforms, techniques, and trends
Working knowledge of desktop publishing tools (Adobe Creative software - InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) is preferred
Ability to communicate effectively through writing
Ability to work nights and weekends
