Summary of Duties:
The Public RelationsWriter conducts research, writes, edits, proofreads, and fact-checks content for a broad range of external and internal communications vehicles, including press releases and announcements, talking points and website content. A particular focus of this position will be to draft compelling, concise, persuasive, and error-free press releases to promote Murrow College faculty research. The candidate will take an independent role to present faculty research accomplishments to the WSU Insider, external reporters, and external media outlets as applicable.
As a member of the Murrow College marketing team, this individual collaborates with colleagues within the marketing department, faculty, leadership, and colleagues in other departments system wide as needed. The candidate is resourceful, persistent, understands academic research and terminology, and can translate scientific and technical ideas into generally accessible language.
A Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, humanities, public relations, OR related field AND one (1) year of writing/editing/public relations experience; OR equivalent education/experience.
Strong proofreading and editing skills.
Mastery of AP style.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Work experience that demonstrates competency, proficiency, and accuracy using software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
Experience working in a deadline-driven work environment.
Ability to write accurate, appealing content in journalistic, feature, and marketing-oriented styles.
Ability to explain scientific and technical ideas in simple language.
Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
Three years of industry work experience, or a body of published work.
