Job Description:
The Communications and Outreach Specialist in the Brown University School of Public Health will be part of a fast moving and vibrant team at the emerging Brown SPH Pandemic Center. The Pandemic Centerâ™s mission is to focus on disease surveillance, public health readiness, health system resilience, crisis communication, workforce training, and global reach.
Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Communications and Outreach Specialistâ™s primary responsibility will be to support the research team at the Pandemic Center, specifically in the areas of research knowledge translation, written and visual content development and rapid information dissemination. The Communications and Outreach Specialist will conceptualize and maintain the Centerâ™s website, build and expand a social media presence, translate the Center's activities into content on various platforms, and run engagement activities on- and offline. The Specialist will also have opportunities to collaborate on research projects related to crisis and other health communications best practices and efficacy. Â
Job QualificationsÂ
Education, Experience, and Competencies
⢠MA in communications, public relations, journalism or related field
⢠3-5 years of professional experience in communications or a related field
⢠Experience with research translation and audience engagement strongly preferredÂ
⢠Demonstrated ability to quickly produce and edit copy for a variety of platforms
⢠Demonstrated ability to translate research findings to content suitable for lay audiences across a variety of media and social media channels
⢠Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines with quality work
⢠Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships and coordinate among various partners and constituencies, both internal and external, to establish and further collaborative initiativesÂ
⢠Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills is essential
⢠Experience developing and implementing integrated communications strategies that span multiple outlets including print, web, and social media
⢠Strong proficiency working with web content management systems and the full range of social media platforms and account management tools.
⢠Knowledge of copyright, image use protocols and laws governing online posting of intellectual property ⢠Demonstrated ability and flexibility to multi-task, prioritize, and manage diverse job responsibilities while meeting various deadlines required
⢠Must be a team player with the ability to work independently with a strong service-oriented attitude
⢠Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.Â
⢠Knowledge and/or interest in public health, Covid-19, and/or epidemiology is a plus
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 06/30/2024 which may be extended based upon available funding.
