Job Purposes::
The Feature Writer/Storyteller is a creative communicator who brings the Wright State story to life through compelling, human-centered content. This role focuses on discovering and sharing narratives that elevate the university's brand, celebrate student and alumni success, and connect with key audiences—prospective students, donors, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community.
As a key member of the University Communications and Marketing team, the Feature Writer/Storyteller collaborates closely with colleagues across campus to uncover meaningful stories, translate institutional priorities into engaging content, and develop high-quality copy for a wide range of print and digital platforms.
Required Qualifications::
Bachelor's degree
5+ years progressive experience in marketing, communications, or related field;
Creative thinker in developing innovative ideas and solutions to marketing and communication challenges.
Ability and experience developing relationships with an internal audience to source for stories.
Ability and experience to think strategically – both long and short term.
Superb written communication and strong diplomatic skills are required, as well as the ability to work with senior administration.
Must be deadline oriented and able to manage multiple projects.

Essential Functions and percent of time::
Storytelling, Writing, Editing, and Content Development (65%) o Research, interview, and write a wide range of engaging feature stories, profiles, and branded content that promote Wright State's mission, student success, alumni achievements, faculty innovation, and community impact. o Collaborate with designers, photographers, videographers, and digital marketers to shape multimedia storytelling projects. o Craft content for key university publications (e.g., alumni magazines, admissions materials, donor communications) and digital channels, including the website, blogs, and social media. o Develop editorial calendars, pitch story ideas, and support campaign messaging aligned with enrollment, advancement, and reputation goals. o Ensure a consistent brand voice and message across all written content while tailoring tone and approach to specific audiences (prospective students, parents, donors, faculty/staff, alumni, etc.). o Tailor voice and tone to resonate with diverse audiences while maintaining consistency with the university's brand and editorial standards. Develop relationships for successful representation of the University's interests (15%) o Build strong, trusting relationships across campus to uncover meaningful and authentic stories—from deans to student leaders. o Act as a university ambassador in gathering stories that reflect institutional priorities, values, and achievements. o Serve as a liaison between UCM and campus partners to ensure story accuracy, access, and alignment with strategic goals.
