The Communications Specialist assists in the development, implementation, and execution of communications programs that support the needs and goals of the UC Davis School of Medicine Dean's Office. Develops a broad range of communications on various platforms including written, visual, digital, and electronic. Takes direction from the School of Medicine Dean's Office Executive Communications Lead.
In this position, the Communications Specialist utilizes exceptional writing, editing, strategic communication planning and implementation, and excellent organizational skills, and uses experience working in a team-based environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines, and building successful collaborations with a wide variety of constituents. Duties include School of Medicine website content creation and maintenance, implementation of strategic communications and initiatives, and newsletter development, among others.
This position works in partnership with the Executive Communications Lead, Dean's Office team (including the Dean's leadership team, and project management and administrative teams), and School of Medicine, UC Davis Health and UC Davis constituents. Under the direction of the Dean's Office Executive Communications Lead, this position collaborates with UC Davis Health's Public Affairs and Marketing social media staff, public information officers, and internal communications, digital communications and marketing teams. Work produced must comply with UC Davis Health graphic brand standards, editorial and web standards.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in marketing or equivalent work experience in communication, journalism, or related field
A minimum of 3 years of experience developing, creating, writing, editing, and disseminating content across a wide variety of internal and external communications channels to diverse audiences
Excellent editing and proofreading skills and attention to detail
Demonstrated experience with digital content management systems and other web technologies
Exceptional interpersonal communication and client service skills to successfully collaborate with a variety of constituents at all levels of the organization
Proven aptitude and experience performing in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities, deadlines and goals
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing internal constituent newsletters and measuring their effectiveness
Knowledge of proofreaders' marks and AP style
Client relations experience
Department Description
The Department of Public Affairs and Marketing plans, manages, and implements strategic communications (such as news services, public relations, marketing, internal and external communications) for UC Davis Health. Communications are aimed at a wide range of key constituencies, such as the news media, UC administration, UC Davis faculty, staff and students, government/regulatory leaders, external physicians, business leaders, patients and health care consumers, and the general public.
