The School of Theatre and Dance is dedicated to creating a welcoming and collaborative work environment. With six-degree programs, the School of Theatre and Dance requires year-round recruitment. The School of Theatre and Dance operates as an academic department as well as a performing arts center, producing a total of eight mainstage and studio performances annually. The Admissions Counselor will steward relationships with teachers, students and families from a variety of communities and backgrounds. The recruiter will serve as the primary contact for a prospective student entering NIU as a theatre or dance major.
Position Summary:
The primary role of the Admissions Counselor is to oversee strategic planning and coordination of recruiting activities, and school admissions. This individual will collaborate with faculty to plan attendance for recruitment fairs/festivals, prepare orientation materials, and handle public relations/alumni outreach in coordination with the CVPA Director of Marketing and Communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Coordination
Responsible for area specific recruiting campaigns in the CRM system (SLATE), manages application review and status in PeopleSoft/OnBase and serves as the liaison to the Associate Director of CRM.
Responsible for coordinating auditions for The School of Theatre and Dance which includes scheduling, preparation, and assisting faculty and prospective students and their families.
Attends Recruitment Committee meetings.
Coordinates student and family visits to the School of Theatre and Dance.
Responsible for coordinating and attending recruiting fairs, which include the Illinois High School Theatre Festival, Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, and others.
Assists in the preparation of all recruitment materials.
Responsible for establishing relationships with high schools and studios in DeKalb, Rockford, Aurora, and Chicago by arranging visits throughout the year.
School Support
Assists with the creation, maintenance, and distribution of the school meeting calendars.
Assists with the maintenance of other calendars as needed.
Administrative Liaison
Tracks the status of reimbursements affiliated with recruitment travel.
Collaborates with university Admissions Office to prepare orientation materials, and digital toolkits for NIU's summer orientation of new undergraduate students.
Serves as liaison between faculty and NIU Admissions Office.

Bachelor's degree in Theatre, Dance, or related field.
Experience working with diverse populations.
