The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Public Relations. The primary responsibilities for the position include teaching undergraduate level courses, especially in the program's public relations concentration. An ideal candidate will be expected to create new courses on digital PR and advertising and possess a sound knowledge of the applications of Artificial Intelligence in communication. In addition to teaching major's core and advanced-level courses, conducting research and grant writing, academic/student advising, mentoring students, participating in student recruitment and curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities and all other activities required for tenure. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment and service to the department, college and university as needed.

This is a 9-month tenure-track position.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in Mass Media Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Public Relations, which are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). The Department has over 430 majors. The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS is an academic unit that reports to the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs and enrolls more than 2,000 students and has more than 160 full-time faculty members.

Candidates must have Ph.D. in mass communication, journalism, media or a Ph.D. in a closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline.
