Job Summary

The head football coach is responsible for all phases of the football program including recruitment of prospective student-athletes, game preparation and strategy, supervision of assistant coaches, scheduling, attending meetings with alumni and other public relations events, fiscal management, camps and clinics.

NOTE: In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not offer sponsorship for employment visas.

Responsibilities

• Administer the football program in accordance with Savannah State University, University System of Georgia (USG), National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), and Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SIAC) requirements.
• Be accountable for the team's on-field performance, with an overarching objective to consistently maintain a high-level, positive winning percentage that meets or exceeds established benchmarks for the program's history and competitive environment.
• Demonstrate sportsmanship and the highest level of personal integrity.
• Prepare and organize daily practice sessions and game preparation for competition.
• Organize and administer the recruiting of prospective student-athletes in accordance with the NCAA, Conference, and Savannah State University policies and procedures.
• Coordinate with academic services to promote and monitor the academic development, progress and graduation of student-athletes.
• Promote an atmosphere of compliance with all NCAA, SIAC, institutional, federal, and state rules and regulations.
• Report all known or suspected violations of NCAA or SIAC regulations to the Compliance Office or the Athletic Director.
• Maintain accurate and compliant records, including recruitment files, eligibility documentation, emergency data cards, and other materials supporting eligibility, academic progress, matriculation, and transfer.
• Analyze trends in the transfer portal, identify potential transfer student-athletes and facilitate communication with athletes considering transferring in accordance with NCAA and SIAC regulations.
• Manage, supervise and evaluate staff positions (including student employees) related to game management.
• Exhibit dedication to the SSU community and students.
• Represent the University during fundraising and other civic events.
• Must be dedicated to students holistically, including their academic success and health and wellness.
• Sponsor or obtain sponsorship to participate in and conduct camps/clinics.
• Participate with team and staff during community service programs.
• Establish and execute a successful fundraising plan for the program and execute fundraising projects when appropriate.
• Demonstrate a commitment to working with student-athletes toward academic success.
• Create an environment that places value on student athletes and staff, safety, mental health, and overall wellbeing.
• May be required to perform job related duties other than those specifically delineated in this position.
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
• Three (3) years of progressive and successful coaching experience, at the collegiate level or exceptional equivalent (ex. Professional, post-secondary, etc.)
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Five (5) years of progressive and successful coaching experience at the collegiate level
• Master's degree from an accredited institution
  

Proposed Salary

The proposed salary range is $90,000.00 to $100,000.00 annually.

• Ability to hire, supervise, and develop staff
• Ability to recruit, develop, retain and graduate student-athletes
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to raise funds and promote the football program regionally and nationally
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle highly sensitive and personal information with sound judgement, tact and discretion
