Job Description:
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University (Los Angeles, CA) is seeking an individual to teach PRL 530.4 Special Topics in PR: Entertainment PR in LA, on Monday March 9, 2026, 6:00pm-9:00pm; and Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday March 10-12, 2026, 9:00am-5:00pm in Los Angeles, CA. during the Spring 2026 semester. (1 credit).
Course Description: This Special Topics Course focuses on entertainment public relations, is taught in Los Angeles and is open to undergraduate and graduate students. This course will introduce students to the various sides public relations within the entertainment industry. Issues related to corporate communications, media relations and publicity, marketing communications, employee relations, community relations, political communications and crisis communications could be explored within various entertainment contexts. Students will go on background immersion visits to agencies, studios, media companies and entertainment/sports venues to gain insight into PR operations, and guest speakers representing film, television, streaming, music, personal representation, and other environments will discuss public relations in the entertainment space with students. Students will be required to keep a daily blog (or related daily social media assignment) about the course experiences and complete a final project or paper related to the course. Readings for the course will be assigned and completed before the first day of the spring session.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required.
Masters degree preferred.

It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:
Developing a syllabus.
Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.
Preparing for classes.
Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to personally instruct the class in the assigned classroom on the days it is designated to meet.
Ability to hold office hours on campus.
Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
Tools/Equipment:
Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
