Department Dean of the Graduate School Category Communications and Public Relations Job Type Temporary
Overview
The Princeton University Office of the Dean of the Graduate School is seeking a highly motivated individual for a temporary content creation role. This person will be responsible for creating web and social media content about the Princeton University Graduate School for a general audience. Under the direction of the Graduate School's Director of Communications, the content creator will write and help create news briefs, web content, social media, and multimedia communications. Much of the content will be about the Graduate School's 125th anniversary and the School's most notable alumni scholars. An interest in light research and working with the Princeton University Library is a plus. (Please note this is not an academic research or writing position.)
The successful applicant will have a journalist's eye for a compelling story, an editor's attention to accuracy, and a creator's skills to turn around stories and posts quickly. News and feature stories will be in the style used by major newspapers and magazines. Responsibilities include writing, editing, updating web content, identifying/gathering art and photography for publication, and creating audio and video content.
Dates: Immediately-April 2026. Time: 20-40 hours/week. The ideal candidate will be available to start immediately and be prepared to work more hours this summer, with hours tapering off during the course of the academic year. Work schedules can be flexible during the term of employment.
Location: In-person work at the Princeton University campus is preferred; however, a partial remote working arrangement may be considered. Compensation: $17/hour Deadline to apply: Position is open until filled.
Responsibilities
The content creator will have the opportunity to learn online content management by participating in all aspects of the digital editorial function, including uploading and publishing written and visual content to the Graduate School website, editing materials, coordinating presentations, and ensuring digital accessibility standards are maintained. The position will also involve learning to write for both internal and external audiences, as well as adapting content to different formats. Work produced by this role will appear on the Graduate School's websites and social media and potentially in other campus digital publications and media, as appropriate.
Qualifications
The successful applicant must have excellent (and fast) writing and editing skills and experience, and possess the ability to work with a content management system. (Drupal preferred.) Individuals who are detail-oriented and have experience and strong skills in non-academic writing and communication are encouraged to apply. This position will require light historical and biographical research. Previous coursework in communications, writing, and research is a plus. The successful candidate must be capable of meeting deadlines and handling multiple projects simultaneously. Skills in photo editing, video editing and graphic design are very valuable.
To Apply:
Submit your resume, cover letter and three writing samples in the style of news articles, feature articles, blog postings or other pieces written for a general audience. Submit social media and multimedia content, if available, and explain your role in its creation/production. Please specify in your cover letter whether you can work on the Princeton campus or prefer some remote work. Writing samples and social media/multimedia content can be uploaded via the "Other Documents" field on your Candidate Dashboard.
