The John Glenn College of Public Affairs seeks to hire a semester lecturer to teach in Autumn 2025.
PUBAFRS 5620 Rapid Innovation for Public Impact (4) Credit Hour
Course Overview
PUBAFRS 5620 is a 4-credit, interdisciplinary, experiential learning course that engages upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in tackling real-world, complex public sector challenges. Sponsored by government or nonprofit agencies, student teams apply human-centered design, agile development, and systems thinking to develop innovative, actionable solutions.
Performance Objectives
Planning and organizing instruction in ways which maximize student learning. Meeting scheduled classes and office hours in accordance with university policy. Ensuring curriculum implementation and course preparation in accordance with school standards. Preparing homework and exams, evaluating, and returning student work in a timely manner to promote learning. Maintaining accurate records of students progress and submitting final grade roster in accordance with established university deadlines. Maintaining confidentiality of student information in accordance withFERPA.
Position Responsibilities
Lead and facilitate weekly in-person class sessions (Fridays, 12:003:00 p.m.) and coordinate weekly team office hours.
Guide student teams through the innovation process, including problem definition, stakeholder engagement, solution development, and final presentations.
Collaborate with course coordinators, mentors, and partners to ensure alignment with course goals and sponsor expectations.
Provide timely feedback on student deliverables including presentations, reports, and reflections.
Evaluate student performance based on team and individual contributions, using provided rubrics.
Maintain accurate records and submit final grades in accordance with university deadlines.
Uphold university policies regarding FERPA, academic integrity, and inclusive teaching practices.
Candidates must be able to perform these duties in a flexible work environment. Courses may be scheduled during mornings, afternoons, or evenings. This is a term-limited, semester-long appointment. The course is delivered in-person on the Columbus campus.
Education and Experience
Required: Master's degree in Public Affairs, Business, Public Policy, Engineering, Design, or a related field.Excellent oral and written communication skills, experience teaching or mentoring students in interdisciplinary, project-based environments.
Desired Qualifications:
PhD in Public Affairs or related field. Experience working with public sector agencies or nonprofits on complex problem solving. Familiarity with agile development, systems thinking, and stakeholder engagement methodologies. Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
