Tennessee Tech University is accepting applications for the position of Director of Sports Information. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. This individual will report to the Director of Athletics. The Director of Sports Information is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive athletics communications program that supports college branding and marketing initiatives across all 15 of Tennessee Tech’s intercollegiate sport programs, as well as the TTU cheer and dance teams. The Director of Sports Information’s primary focus is publicizing and promoting the athletic programs and student-athletes at Tennessee Tech University. Responsibilities include maintaining and enhancing the TTUSports.com athletics website, writing feature stories and press releases, responding to and coordinating with media outlets, creating pre-season publicity and programs, contributing to other gameday publications, supervising photography and broadcasting, reporting statistical information, and overseeing sports social media. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Tennessee Tech Athletics department
Serves as primary contact for select intercollegiate programs; Handles day-to-day publicity and social media for assigned sports (determined by the Director of Sports Information and Director of Athletics).
Writes news releases and maintains department website.
Creates graphics for distribution through sport social media outlets.
Manage various stats software, including StatCrew, NCAA Live Stats, etc. Report all game statistics to media outlets, appropriate conference and non-conference opponents, and the NCAA. Train and supervise statistical crews in all sports.
Coordination of radio broadcasts and operations including technology and equipment oversight, and coordination with vendors and broadcasters.
Oversee a department with two coordinators, one of which also serves as the primary radio and video broadcaster, and one more contracted broadcaster.
Assists with supervision of student workers assigned to sports information in the Athletics Department.
Collect and maintain sports program history, including records, statistics, and photography records for archival purposes.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year institution, preferably in a communications field, is required.
At least 5 years working within sports information, media relations, public relations or electronic and print media. Demonstrated expertise in written and oral communication skills, organization and promotional planning are essential.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
Maintain strict confidentiality and attention to detail are essential.
Excellent writing and editing skills and knowledge of Associated Press (A.P.) style
Working knowledge of computers and various software for editing and design.
Must be proficient in Adobe Suite, primarily Photoshop and InDesign.
Video and/or photography skills recommended.
Experience with statistical programs such as StatCrew and NCAA Live Stats is preferred.
Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing NCAA landscape.
