The CUNY School of Law is the premier public interest law school in the country. Founded in 1983, we train lawyers to serve historically underrepresented communities and work towards greater diversity in the legal profession. We are the most diverse law school on the East Coast, and one of the top law schools in the country for clinical practice.As a member of the executive team, the Chief of Staff oversees one or more College administrative functions to meet strategic goals and provide responsive, cost-effective, and high-quality services and programs. They plan, implement and manage key programs with responsibility for budget, personnel, and daily operations and coordinate and participate in key College and University-wide committees, advisory groups, and board-related activities.
Reporting directly to the Dean of CUNY School of Law. The Chief of Staff works closely with Senior/Associate/Assistant Deans, directors, faculty and staff. They will be a member of the Deans cabinet. They will provide senior-level support and manage highly visible, complex projects and activities on behalf of the Dean partnerships, operations, outreach and board related activities on schedule.
The duties and responsibilities of the Chief of Staff will include but are not limited to;
Providing leadership and direction for the Dean's ongoing projects and strategic planning initiatives to ensure that all are effectively moving according to plan, objectives and established milestones.
Developing and cultivating effective professional relationships in order to interact with the law school's community, leadership, offices of the dean's, VIPs and external organizations to help further the law school's relations, vision for the law school and public affairs goals, while acting as a liaison for the Dean.
Serve as the primary contact for stakeholders and college partners and represent the Dean at internal and external meetings.
Recommending, developing, implementing, and evaluating methods, policies, procedures, and systems to best support the Dean. Oversee the ECP performance management process. Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise requiring the Dean's attention
Working with Foundation Board of Directors, including but not limited to supporting the recruitment process for prospective and new board members, supporting the ongoing engagement of existing members, and facilitating communication between the law school and Foundation board.
Handle matters of the greatest confidentiality, and provide confidential support and guidance to the dean, other executives, and senior staff members.
Managing all scheduling and planning for the Dean's appearances/speeches, VIP campus visits and events.
Supervising and directing the staff in the Office of the Dean.
Preparing speeches, talking points, event briefings, and various correspondences on behalf of the Dean, in conjunction with the Director of Communications and Marketing
May include grant writing for the Dean's Office.
This position may include evening and weekend hours.
This position is also eligible for ahybridwork schedule that includes a minimum of 70% in-person hours (based on departmental and/or divisional needs) the requirement for in-person work may be higher than 70%.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are listed below:
