The American Association of Endodontists (AAE) and Foundation for Endodontics (AAEF) are dedicated to the excellence in the art and science of endodontics and to the highest standard of patient care. The Association inspires its members to pursue professional advancement and personal fulfillment through education, research, advocacy, leadership, communication, and service.

The AAE is currently seeking an Assistant Executive Director of Advocacy & Professional Relations to join our team. This is a key role that directs the associations advocacy and professional relations, serves as a liaison to regulatory and policy-setting agencies, and manages all relevant stakeholder relations.

What You’ll Do:

• Directly supervise the Manager of Advocacy and Policy.
• Develop strategies to drive the association’s mission through development of knowledge and association policy, and through advocating to stakeholder groups.
• Direct and administer the AAE’s activities in the following areas of professional affairs:
  • scope of practice and standard of practice for endodontics
  • specialty recognition
  • governmental and regulatory affairs
  • practice affairs and dental benefits
• Develop and execute strategies to engage and educate members regarding the association’s advocacy efforts on their behalf.
• Oversee development of the AAE’s Advocacy Newsletter and the AAE’s online member advocacy portal.
• Analyze trends, develop strategies, and advise leadership on external drivers of change including legislative, socioeconomic and practice trends.
• Serve as staff liaison to and administers programs under the auspices of the Practice Affairs Committee and other committees as assigned.
• Direct and administer the association’s activities with related organizations and stakeholder groups, such as dental plans, dental directors, dental specialty groups, state dental boards, American Dental Association and its Code Maintenance Committee, Standards Consensus bodies, SNODENT Maintenance Committee, ADPAC, the Organized Dentistry Coalition, Dental Quality Alliance, and the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards.

The Foundation for Endodontics, a 501(c)3 charity that was incorporated in 1966, is the philanthropic arm of the AAE. It works to ensure the specialty’s place at the forefront of the dental health arena through securing contributions, shepherding resources, and sharing grant funds that support research, generate new knowledge, and enhance endodontic education. The foundation has an endowment fund of approximately $30 million, and an annual budget of $2.5 million.

What We Seek:

• Minimum of 5-7 years of related experience required, preferably with a dental/health care association or dental/health care related organization.
• At least 2-3 years of supervisory experience strongly desired.
• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience required; related graduate degree preferred.
• Ability to drive consensus with staff, committees, boards, and executives.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and take initiative on project development.
• Effective oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences and purposes.
• Strong research, analytical, and leadership skills.
• Knowledge regarding legal and regulatory aspects of health care and dentistry.
• Knowledge of dental or medical insurance claims payment processes.
• Experience with budgeting and vendor management.
• Experience working with a non-profit organization, association, and/or volunteer board. Experience working with committee forms of governance and decision making.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to travel required.
• Experiencing working with committees and preferably Boards.
• Experience representing an organization to outside stakeholders.
• Significant program or project management experience.
