1. Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for University Initiatives and Presidential Communications, analyze the landscape of higher education routinely and stay up to date on the president's priorities and activities to develop and implement communications strategy to advance the university's mission, protect Yale's reputation, and amplify the university's standing. 2. Conduct research proactively and collaborate with colleagues across the university to find grounding elements from Yale's history and examples of current excellence for the 100+ presidential communications deliverables that are completed each year. 3. After major presidential events, proactively assess the effectiveness of presidential communications to inform future communications plans and strategy. This work is done as appropriate by working collaboratively with colleagues within and outside of the president's office. 4. With guidance from the AVP, create talking points and narratives for emerging issues on tight deadlines, taking into account multiple stakeholders and the complexities of the current local and national climate. 5. Prepare polished final drafts of high-level strategic communications for internal and external audiences, including researching, consulting with relevant colleagues, and writing original works. 6. Translate complex concepts into powerful language for a wide range of audiences, including speeches, reports, presentations, op-eds, web content, and collateral material. 7. Actively edit and provide feedback on presidential communications drafted by others at the university, and supervise the senior writer responsible for drafting presidential correspondence and other materials. 8. Collaborate closely with peers, including Office of Public Affairs and other university colleagues. 9. Engage with internal and external vendors to produce websites, videos, and other multimedia projects as needed. 10. Assist with responses to media inquiries. 11. Perform related duties & responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skill/ability 2:  Ability to capture the distinctive voice of the president in speeches, remarks, op-eds, presentations, and other written works.
