The Associate Director of the Alumni Annual Fund is a full-time (1.0 FTE) exempt, regular, benefit-eligible staff position. Some travel, as well as some evening and weekend work is expected.
The Associate Director is a member of a well-organized and collaborative Alumni Annual Fund team. Collectively, the AAF team raises $11 million from alumni, parents, and friends of the College, and is considered to be a national model for alumni participation
Compensation:
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $75,800 and $78,400. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Thoughtfully maintains working relationships with current alumni leaders across a range of classes, including current and former Trustees, major and planned giving prospects, and members serving on the Alumni Annual Fund Board.
Serves 1 as a consultant to class leaders by guiding them through strategy development and the creation of ambitious yet achievable goals, thereby assisting in meeting the College’s budgeted dollar and alumni participation goals for the fiscal year.
Identifies, recruits, motivates, and stewards new Alumni Annual Fund volunteers.
Actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with members of the Alumni Relations team on assigned reunion committees, creating a comprehensive experience for reunion planning and fundraising volunteers.
Partners with high-profile volunteers and gift prospects in their 30th, 35th, 40th, and 45th Reunions.
Proactively partners with development colleagues on strategy and approach for major gift prospects within the class range, taking into account class strategies and goals.
Solicits volunteer leaders as appropriate.
Establishes and cultivates relationships with coaches and alumni volunteers to deepen the engagement of athletics alumni with Carleton. Coordinates with coaches to integrate them into alumni team volunteer groups.
Engages alumni athletes, coaches, and PEAR staff to support soliciting unrestricted support for Carleton Athletics.
Works with the AAF Board athletics working group, championing unrestricted funds for Carleton athletics and recreation within the AAF Board and the broader alumni community.
Meets periodically with the Senior Director of Planned Giving and Development Initiatives to discuss Athletics fundraising, ensure consistent messaging, and stay informed about restricted gift conversations related to athletics
Project Management
Organizes class team meetings and calls, keeping teams accountable to their plans and deadlines.
Gathers content (solicitations or thank yous) from volunteers and deploys using a variety of tools including mail, email marketing systems, texting, and video platforms.
In coordination with the AAF Board’s Athletics working group, helps determine goals and direction of athletic philanthropy efforts during the All Day, All Knights homecoming campaign and Maize & Blue Daize.
Education/Experience/Skills:
Required:
Possesses a bachelor’s degree and three or more years of previous experience in relationship or account management, fundraising, volunteer management, or comparable experience.
Appreciates the educational experience a small residential college provides.
Is interested in thinking creatively and strategically about how engagement with an organization intersects with philanthropy and volunteerism.
Is highly organized.
Has the ability to adapt to various communication and work styles.
Is team-oriented and collaborative.
Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills, with the judgment and discretion to handle confidential or sensitive matters.
Is able to travel; some evening and weekend work are required.
Preferred:
Has five or more years of previous experience in relationship or account management, fundraising, volunteer management, or comparable experience.
Is comfortable with Excel.
Demonstrates proficiency in managing multiple tasks and priorities.
Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
