Fitness Program Coordinator - Group Exercise (525954)

Provides professional management and supervision for the daily operations of University Recreation Fitness Programs. Provides leadership and oversight for Group Exercise, Pilates Reformer, and wellness programs across all UREC facilities, with occasional local collaborations. Reports to and works closely with the Assistant Director for Fitness Programs on strategic planning to ensure that programmatic, financial, and experiential goals are met. Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and supervises approximately 50 student and non-student staff members. Conducts employee skills assessments and performance evaluations. Develops and executes revenue producing programs. Assists with departmental safety trainings. Performs high level of risk assessment and manages the needs of the group exercise studios and fitness equipment. Manages administrative tasks (payroll, budgeting, and accounting) and has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in University policies and procedures. Serves as a fitness ambassador for the department providing fitness education, knowledge, and public relations to a variety of campus and community populations. Provides a welcoming environment for University Recreation participants by offering broad educational and recreational opportunities to students, faculty, staff, alumni, affiliates, and community participants. Lead at least two classes per week. Supports department and University goals in student employment opportunities, patron relations, program offerings, and special events, and works to maximize student and patron experiences by providing quality programs, facilities, and customer experiences. Assists in providing opportunities that have a positive impact on the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of University students through programs as well as collaborations and partnerships with other campus units. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Holds staff accountable for completion of required training.
Hours vary to include some early mornings, evening, and weekends for staff training and development, events, and other activities. On-call for emergencies in program area.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher and some fitness programming experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid, nationally recognized group exercise certification, from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited certifying organization, or be able to obtain certifications within three (3) months of hire date if lapsed. CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) weeks of hire date. CPR & First Aid Instructor certification required, or ability to attain within six (6) months of hire date.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge and skills associated with successful management of Group Exercise programs. Strong customer service, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Competence in fiscal management, assessment, and evaluation. Ability to prioritize multiple work responsibilities in time-sensitive situations, work with limited supervision, supervise staff, and delegate work to student staff. Ability to format and lead group exercise prep course for UA community using NCCA approved certification material, retain participants, maintain presence in fitness spaces. Knowledge of fitness programs, best practices and industry standards. Knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, database management, etc.). Demonstrates commitment to supporting all students.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree and two (2) years of progressive experience leading group exercise programs. Knowledge of educational theories and student development, demonstrates highly critical and creative thinking towards program evaluations, and demonstrates effective judgment. Active instructor in group exercise for various disciplines. Pilates Reformer training or certification (Balanced Body, Stott, Peak).
Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some early mornings, evenings, & weekends required.
UREC Sport Programs Coordinator (526425)

Provides professional management and supervision for the daily operations of Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs for University Recreation, which supports educational and recreational opportunities for the University community. Sport Programs is a integral unit in the Department of University Recreation and Division of Student Life. Contributes to the success of University Recreation by providing structured programming options during evening hours and weekends, and opportunities for students to build community while playing the sports they love, learn experientially, and encourages healthy lifestyles. Reports to and works closely with the Assistant Director for Sport Programs. Manages comprehensive Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs. Hires, trains, and supervises 50-75 student employees. Manages sports officials' training and performance evaluations, and scheduling activities. Serves as a liaison for several Sport Clubs. Works with the Assistant Director to determine a suitable work schedule to ensure appropriate coverage of all events, including evening games and weekend activities, in order to enhance professional supervision during Sport Program activities. Holds shared responsibilities in managing administrative tasks such as payroll, budgeting and accounting, and has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training. Collaborates with the Assistant Director and fellow Coordinator to plan, implement, and evaluate Sport Programs. Works to maximize student experiences through quality programs and customer experiences. Fosters an environment for all students through both programs and services offered. Assists in providing opportunities that have a positive impact on the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of UA students through collaboration and partnerships with other divisional and campus units

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in Intramural Sports and/or Sport Clubs in a collegiate recreation or municipal recreation setting; OR Master’s degree and one (1) year of experience in Intramural Sports and/or Sport Clubs in a collegiate recreation or municipal recreation setting. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student-oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application. Ability to work extended hours as needed.
