Founded in 1965, the Samueli School of Engineering educates more than 4,600 students (3,728 undergraduates and 961 graduates) with an integrative approach that blends fundamentals, research and hands-on experience. The School's faculty members are leaders in their disciplines who have achieved worldwide recognition for their research and dedicated teaching. The School includes six academic departments. Under the leadership of the Dean, the School pursues research that is timely, socially responsible and cutting edge, and works in partnership with industry, state, and federal agencies to promote the transfer of research to applications that benefit society. Current research thrusts include Communications and Information Technology, Energy and Sustainability, Human Health, and Advanced Manufacturing and Materials.
Your Role on the Team
The Executive Director of Development (EDOD) for the Samueli School of Engineering is a senior professional who will work collaboratively with the Dean of the Samueli School of Engineering and University Advancement (UA) to lead the development program for the Samueli School of Engineering and secure significant philanthropic investments to support it. The primary activity of the EDOD is externally focused to secure private philanthropic support and the EDOD effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet metrics. Will maintain a portfolio of donor prospects that include the most influential, complex or highest rated donors. The EDOD reports directly to the Vice Chancellor, University Advancement & Alumni Relations. with a dotted line to the Dean of the Samueli School of Engineering. The EDOD is expected to serve as a member of the Dean's Leadership Team, lead the School's Advancement team, and to also be a highly collaborative colleague with other development officers across the campus.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $185,000- $210,000 (Annual).
Required:
Expert working knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
Expert knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Expert written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.
Expert organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Expert project / program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program / project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.
Expert level skills in maintaining confidentiality.
Extensive experience in the completion of complex and detailed proposals and related materials.
Extensive experience in working independently with both school and institutional goals in mind.
Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Salesforce or a comparable donor/prospect database system.
Extensive demonstrable experience in stewardship plans leading to additional investments.
Clarity of focus while juggling complex projects and/or deadlines. Ability to meet demanding work schedule expectations.
Preferred:
Expert knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and / or throughout higher education / healthcare, generally. Expert knowledge of the location, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Demonstrated skill in managing staff.
