Job Description1. Lead campus-wide sustainability planning, coordination, and implementation. Take an integral role in planning large scale, long-term (5-10 year), and high complexity campus sustainability initiatives and carrying out strategies that aim for optimal and efficient use of the physical plant, facilities, and other institutional resources. Co-chairs the All-University Sustainability Committee with the faculty Sustainability Program Director. Coordinates with the All-University SustainabilityCommittee and Student Senate to oversee the Green Fee. Advises faculty, staff, and student2. organizations regarding sustainability related projects, courses, and labs. Prepares proposals for grants and for prospective donors. Makes recommendations to all units on campus regarding methods and technologies to eliminate waste, save energy, and reduce the university?s overall environmental impact.3. Direct and manage implementation of the University Sustainability Strategic Plan for the WSU Winona and Rochester Campuses. Leads the collaboration of staff, students, faculty, administrators, and the system office to facilitate the transition of the WSU campus to a living learning laboratory dedicated to an equitable and sustainable society. Works on a day-to-day basis with employees from across all units on campus to facilitate sustainability in operations. Collaborates with thefaculty Sustainability Program Director on sustainability initiatives and activities, both on and off campus. Manages the formation of strategic partnerships and teaming arrangements with outside organizations, by liaising with local governments, industry partners, and NGOs. Reviews progress, evaluates results, and updates management as appropriate.4. Support the campus planning, design, and construction work of the Planning and Construction Office. Provides project management for complex, high risk, long-term (5-10 year), and high impact planning and construction initiatives and coordinates internal resources and third parties/vendors for the execution of projects. Supports sustainable management of buildings and spaces, liaising with facilities management and engineering/architectural firms, and provides expertise to administrators, committees, and departments in above areas. Conducts programming, feasibility analysis, development of alternatives, and planning for projects. Develops, originates, maintains, and disseminates University-wide planning polices, guidelines, and standards to promote sustainability leadership. Participates in selecting outside firms and provides representation on project teams to convey expertise in leading sustainability practices and works with consultants and colleagues to integrate these practices into plans and designs.5. Lead development of a progressive culture of sustainability. Works collaboratively with central administration, student groups, and academic leaders to identify living learning lab opportunities and connect academic and operational efforts to spur innovative approaches to campus sustainability. Stimulates discussions, thinking, and actions regarding sustainability throughout the university community. Hires and manages a team of student workers to deploy peer-to-peer outreach and education on selected topics. Establishes, launches, and oversees a the ?Sustainability Resource Center? designed to be a ?one-stop-shop? for sustainability information, resources, and collaboration on campus. Establishes relationships between the university and the region?s sustainability organizations to form partnerships and to meet common goals. Networks with all constituent groups on campus to identify gaps in knowledge and awareness, as well as to promulgate good ideas and novel solutions regarding individual and institutional sustainabilityconcerns. Promotes campus environmental responsibility through presentations and workshops, representing the university through attendance at local meetings, and participating in regional, state, and national organizations.6. Develop and maintain assessment tools to collect data, chart progress, and provide accountability for sustainability initiatives on campus. Leads efforts to benchmark sustainability performance, facilitate collaboration, and develop resources for campus conservation. Works with the Institution Planning and Research (IPAR) department and others as needed to assemble data and prepare reports on progress towards sustainability goals and standards and as required by universityaffiliations with sustainability organizations and public commitments to sustainable practices. Conducts campus sustainability assessments in conjunction with the IPAR department, identifies priorities, and makes recommendations for further actions and policy revisions as necessary, reflective of changing circumstances. Develops and implements a Sustainability Integrated Marketing Plan in partnership with the Marketing and Communications Office. Serve as a key internal communicator and university-wide subject matter expert.7. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the institution as the educational solution of choice. Including but not limited to annually identifying knowledge and skills needs and develop and implement a professional development plan in order to stay current in advances and best practices as applicable to current duties.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor?s degree in Sustainability or related field.Four (4) years of experience with university program development in operational or academic approaches to sustainability.Comprehensive understanding of sustainability challenges, strategies, and methodologiesPreferred QualificationMaster?s degree in Sustainability or a related field.Five (5) years of experience providing leadership in sustainability office or program and advanced professional experience with university program development in operational and/or academic approaches to sustainability.Bachelor?s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, planning, or engineering.Complex project planning/management experience that includes data analysis, engagement of stakeholders, and execution of plans.Knowledge and experience using Building Information Management (BIM) software, Geographic Information System (GIS) software, and project management software.Knowledge and professional experience in sustainable construction practices.Specific comprehensive knowledge and experience in the areas of sustainability policies, sustainable design, sustainable food systems, healthy living programs, conservation, energy, waste and/or water management.Strong oral, written, interpersonal and electronic communication skills necessary to communicate effectively with internal and external university constituencies. Intermediate skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Must be able to work well independently and be a team player and multi-tasker who can establish and follow priorities while maintaining flexibility.Salary Range: $54,344 - $116,608; Commensurate with qualifications and experienceOther Requirements1.
