The MBS International Airport Commission is seeking an Assistant Airport Director. This key leadership role oversees the day-to-day operations of MBS International Airport and supports the Airport Director in managing airport maintenance, ARFF/Operations personnel, and security functions.
Responsibilities include serving as the Airport Security Coordinator, overseeing FAA Part 139 compliance, the airport security system, managing budgets, negotiating leases, supervising construction projects, and contributing to marketing and public relations efforts. The role also involves emergency response coordination, contract security compliance, and tenant lease monitoring.
In the Director’s absence, the Assistant Airport Director assumes full responsibility for the airport and must be available for 24-hour on-call duties. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for maintaining efficient operations and supporting long-term growth.
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from a college or university with a major in business administration, finance, marketing, or other field appropriate to airport management; or a combination of education, training, and work experience that demonstrates an ability to meet the requirements of this job is desirable.
Demonstrated management, financial, marketing and administrative capability.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in airport management at an air carrier airport, with a thorough knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations relating to the operation, security and safety of airport facilities and grounds, persons, aircraft, and vehicles.
Certification as an Accredited Airport Executive with the American Association of Airport Executives is desirable but not required.
Residency requirement to live within a 30-minute drive of MBS International Airport to serve as an “on-call” management representative one week a month to respond to unusual/emergency airport situations.
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment fitness assessment, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check, and a TSA threat assessment.
This position has the option of a modified work week, as well as occasional work-from-home arrangements.
Relocation expenses are negotiable.

MBS International Airport is a public-use FAA Part 139 airport located in Freeland, Michigan. The airport is owned by the City of Midland, the County of Bay, and the City of Saginaw. MBS is a small non-hub airport with approximately 25 employees.
