The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is an individual with specific knowledge and technical skills to assist the Registered Nurse in providing care for a designated group of patients. The LVN utilizes the Nursing Process to provide therapeutic care to a specific population of patients, under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
The Licensed Vocational Nurse as an integral part of the Interdisciplinary Team, utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to employees and volunteers at Keck Medical Center of USC. - Delivers services that meet or exceed professional, organizational, community and regulatory standards and provides customer satisfaction. - Provides clinical and administrative services for new hires, volunteers, and injured employees. - Administers immunizations, PPD skin tests, N95 mask fit testing and annual health assessments. - Actively involved in the Injury and Illness Prevention Program - Maintains well-organized and up-to-date record keeping systems while ensuring confidentiality of employee health records. - Employee participates in a collaborative work environment as demonstrated through teamwork and effective communication.
Essential Duties:
Demonstrates competency in performing the 1st part of the pre placement physical examination and entire process for new volunteers. a. Reviews accuracy and completeness of all new hire or new volunteer forms. b. Reviews submitted medical records c. Performs appropriate screening tests relevant to the position d. Screens for any medical or psychological conditions that may impair ability to perform job duty e. Proper documentation maintained
Demonstrates competency in performing Annual Health Evaluations to employees and volunteers a. Appropriately administers and verifies results of Mantoux skin tests and immunizations b. Appropriately performs N95 Mask-fit testing to individuals that are at risk for exposure to TB patients c. Conducts proper health screening evaluating work-related and non-work related hazards or symptoms. Documents appropriately d. Provides job-specific education and counseling to promote safety and prevent injury. e. Employees or Volunteers are notified via email, mail, phone call or other communicative method for follow-up issues (i.e. negative titers).
Reviews pending files to clear new hires or new volunteers in a timely manner and ensure completeness of records a. Collects, reviews, and files laboratory and chest xrays daily. b. Contacts respective departments or candidate for any missing records c. Forwards completed files to the RN or NP for review and authorize medical clearance
Maintains employee and volunteer active and terminated records a. Ensures accuracy of information entered and maintained in health files, access, Hrmsweb, and other tracking databases. b. Audits charts a minimum of once a year. Makes corrections as necessary c. Follows-up on any missing records or pending issues d. Maintains files that were terminated within the last 2 years in EH e. Forwards terminated files beyond the last 2 years to Iron Mountain or other selected storage facility
Manages or assists with the Injury and Illness Prevention Program a. Provides basic treatment of occupational injuries and illnesses within scope of practice b. Verifies completeness of Employee Incident Report, Problem List, and Bloodborne Pathogen paperwork if applicable c. Investigates cause of injury, prepares action plans and follows-up d. Promotes Safety Programs or initiatives in the hospital
Determines medical clearance for employees returning to work following absence due to occupational or non occupational injury or illness. Consults with RN or NP on all return to work clearances.
Contributes to the development and implementation of educational material.
Administers the tuberculosis surveillance program
Ensures appropriate and sufficient office, medical, and pharmaceutical supplies are ordered and maintained
Manages the Employee Immunization Program
Coordinates employee assistance through HR and EAP or Work and Family Life
Updates and maintains accurate employee health records (manually and computerized). Generates reports for annual health compliance
Ascertains appropriate times to complete filing and organizing of file/supply room
Provides back-up clinical support
Ensures that JCAHO and DHS requirements are met that are Employee Health related
Executes interventions in accordance with Employee Health/ Infection Control Policies and Practices along with other hospital policies
Employee participate in a collaborative work environment as demonstrated through teamwork and effective communication
Assists in planning and coordinating of employee functions and activities
Thinks of creative ways to enhance EH operations and/or the services provided to USC University Hospital and Norris Cancer Hospital employees and volunteers and all other customers in which we have contact
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Req High school or equivalent
Req Specialized/technical training Graduate of an accredited Vocational Nursing Program
Req Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Req Excellent public relation skills
Req Highly organized and detail-minded
Req Computer skills required
Req Capable of communicating with all levels of employee-administrative to staff.
Req Proficient analytical thinking and creative skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Pref 1 year Experience in an acute care setting or occupational setting immediately prior to application
Pref Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Req Licensed Vocational Nurse - LVN (CA DCA) Valid California Vocational Nursing license
Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The hourly rate range for this position is $29.00 - $45.20.
