Provides leadership, vision, and direction in the administration of a comprehensive array of services, policies, and initiatives related to student retention, completion, and success. Plans manages, and evaluates operational, financial, and personnel activities of the assigned area.
Works closely with leadership and constituents in advancing the academic enterprise and students? academic and personal success. Supports the academic division role in shared governance, as appropriate. Supports student body through the development and maintenance of programs to support students? academic and personal success.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Provides leadership in developing strategic objectives and in developing, assessing, and implementing University-wide and Division academic policies and procedures related to student success.
Provides supervisory support for the assigned area, which includes orientation, the freshman success seminar, testing, academic advising, student employment, student success initiatives, career exploration and development and others as necessary. Interviews candidates for employment and recommends hiring; evaluates employee work performance; receives and responds to complaints; provides assistance with the development of unit work procedures and policies; oversees division budget.
Provides effective and efficient management of the division and its human and financial resources; ensures that resources are allocated effectively to achieve objectives of the division; reviews expenses, prepares periodic reports, and develops annual budget recommendations; ensures that programs produce measurable results that are communicated to the campus community.
Provides leadership for persistence, completion, and post-graduation success initiatives.
Designs and implements a comprehensive program of services and activities to drive student success. Formulates student success goals and objectives and oversees achievement of those goals.
Analyzes data to determine barriers to student progress, persistence, and completion; and works with appropriate leadership groups to provide solutions to overcoming these barriers.
Develops and evaluates student persistence and completion metrics; aligns metrics with state goals and mandates; reports data to the administration, Board of Trustees, State agencies, and other pertinent stakeholders.
Coordinates planning with academic advisors, college deans, faculty, and staff to provide a comprehensive approach to student success.
Represents university with visible presence at events with students, parents, and community; represents university through service on community boards and committees.
Participates on a variety of university-level decision making groups. Works with academic senate, college and department committees, to ensure compliance with stated policies and processes.
Works with Enterprise Enrollment with close review of Admissions and admissions policies; Collaborates with Associate Provosts to ensure effective academic advising.
Other Functions and Responsibilities: Assists with training new hires.
Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.
Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday; available to work evenings and weekend hours as needed.
Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over staff and student employees.

Minimum Qualifications: Terminal degree in a discipline relative to the applicable assigned academic area/initiative, or a graduate degree equivalent; ten or more years of higher education leadership in student success and increasing levels of working responsibility; five or more years of supervisory experience; experience developing, implementing and/or overseeing student support programs which contribute to retention, graduation, and overall student success; experience in leading academic advising operations and/or developing and implementing academic advising initiatives to increase retention and persistence; experience in administering academic support services, including tutoring and/or academic coaching; experience with early alert initiatives and the use of technology solutions such as CRM Advise and/or Starfish; experience using data to drive student success initiatives; experience using key student success metrics and presenting analytics to stakeholders; and experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with Banner; budget management; academic affairs operations; orientation programs/onboarding of new students; equipping international student success; and working according to ADA regulations.
