Job Description
Metro State University, Minnesota?s public, urban university, and recipient of the 2019 Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award, occasionally needs community (adjunct) faculty to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. These positions are temporary and part-time.
Responsibilities:
Faculty members are expected to demonstrate ability to teach Professional Communication courses effectively at the undergraduate level.
Assigned courses may include the following subject matter:
Intercultural Communication from an anti-racist framework
Other communication classes, as assigned.
Outstanding candidates will demonstrate a commitment to serving a culturally diverse student body through delivering a student-centered education in a liberal arts and sciences context and will possess the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in communication with a concentration that offers preparation to teach upper division courses in Intercultural Communication
Ph.D. must be completed by time of hire (ABD will be considered for interviews).
Demonstrated effectiveness in university-level teaching.
Demonstrated commitment to linking theoretical and practical learning.
Demonstrated scholarship in intercultural communication.
Demonstrated commitment to serving a culturally diverse student population.

Preferred Qualification
Demonstrated commitment to teaching intercultural communication through an anti-racist lens
Demonstrated competence in teaching in other communication concentrations (e.g., interpersonal communication, public speaking, organizational communication, etc.)
Demonstrated competence in multiple teaching modalities (e.g., online, hybrid, face-to-face)
Experience teaching at an urban university

The School/Academic Department:The Department of Professional Communication offers a BA in Professional Communication with 5 tracks: Communication Specialist, Health Communication, Media Studies, Organizational Communication and Public Relations. Metropolitan State University?s Professional Communication Program emphasizes new technologies, relevant theory, and practical, hands-on learning. The program features a commitment to service learning, anti-racism, and an active relationship with Twin Cities employers and practitioners.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the salary placement process as outlined in the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement
Employment for this position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) which can be found at on the Minnesota State Employee and Labor Relations website.
