Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Director of Debate. This position reports to the Dean of the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers-Newark. The Director of the Rutgers-Newark Debate Program will be the administrator for all associated operations and activities related to the Debate Program. The Director organizes, administers, and coordinates multiple facets of the activities, including but not limited to, programs, projects, events, processes, communication, advising, and recruitment. The Director will oversee the day-to-day administration and operations of the Debate Program, including managing budget and staff, ensuring an inviting atmosphere for students and internal/external stakeholders, and administering the Debate Program in a customer-friendly and service-oriented manner. The Director will improve all aspects of the debate performance towards high-level intercollegiate competition and reimagine the Debate Program and team within Rutgers-Newark with its strong commitment to RU-N's identity as an anchor institution for the local community.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
Designing, deploying, and coordinating communication and marketing efforts to reach and engage current and prospective students.
Planning and executing a wide range of multi-media communication and programming to effectively reach and build community with the Debate Program and RU-N Community.
Strategically use the resources of RU-N, the city, and the region to showcase the Debate Program and team with the university community, students and prospective students, the public, and both internal and external agencies and organizations.
Developing processes, evaluating program effectiveness, and identifying and obtaining additional resources.
Leading the coordination and execution of on-site evaluations of the program, assess program progress, and prepare appropriate recommendations for review by the Dean of SPAA and the Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs.
liaising with various public and private institutions and agencies to assess program requirements, modifications, and innovations.
Overseeing the coordination of event and program publicity, and fundraising efforts, and may be asked to participate in the preparation of grant proposals as needed.
Coordinating event evaluation processes, collect, and organize data, and assist with analysis for inclusion in documents and reports.
Providing timely and accurate information in response to requests and advising students on the policies and processes of the Debate Program, the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA), and RU-N.
This position requires knowledge of general program coordination practices and the application of concepts, theories, and terminologies of the Debate Program.
The Director must be able to multitask in a fast-paced, customer-service-focused environment with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Debate Program, SPAA, and RU-N.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of program design and execution, coordination, organization, facilitation, report analysis, writing, and promotion/outreach.
Also requires a minimum of two years relevant experience in an administrative function that includes coordination of work and management of people; strong written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy.
