Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Training Manager will manage the International Center for Child Health and Developmentâ™s (ICHAD) training portfolio. ICHAD is an active research center whose mission is to contribute to the reduction of poverty and improvement of public health outcomes for children, adolescents and families in low-resource communities, particularly those in Sub-Saharan Africa and other developing nations. The Center advances its mission through innovative applied intervention research, capacity building opportunities for a new generation of scholars, raising public awareness and support for economic empowerment interventions, and informing public policy and programming. ICHAD builds upon a 15+ year solid foundation of basic and applied innovative field research conducted by ICHAD Research Teams across Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently, ICHAD houses ten research studies and four NIH-funded research training programs.
ICHADâ™s innovative applied intervention research studies are designed to contribute to the reduction of poverty and improvement of public health outcomes for children, adolescents, and families in low-resource communities, particularly those in Sub-Saharan Africa and other developing nations. Our current research portfolio consists of the following ten large-scale, NIH-funded longitudinal randomized control trials across subâ“Saharan Africa: Subbi4Her-R2, Bridges2Scale, Bridges-R2, Kyaterakera Project, M-Suubi, Obuvumu (Discrete Choice Experiment), Suubi+Adherence-R2, Suubi+Adherence4Youth (MOST), SuubiMHealth, and Suub4Stronger Families.
Capacity building is one of the primary focus areas for ICHAD as we continue to develop and implement contextually-relevant evidence-based interventions to support children, families, and communities in addressing the unique challenges they experience. By leveraging our global research studies, university affiliations, and institutional partnerships, ICHAD promotes bi-directional learning between the United States and Sub-Saharan Africa, and beyond, to train the next generation of global behavioral health researchers through four NIH-funded training grants. Our four training programs are the R25 Researcher Resilience Training Program (RRT), the T37 LEAD Global Training Program (LEAD), the D43 CHILD-Global Research Fellowship (CHILD-GRF), and the D43 ACHIEVE Training Program (ACHIEVE).
The Training Manager will mainly be responsible for managing the Centerâ™s federally funded training programs and events/conferences as well as providing technical support for grant submissions. This includes scheduling meetings, arranging guest speakers, maintaining the training websites, making travel arrangements, coordinating with research fellows, taking meeting minutes, and assisting with assembling administrative components of grant applications. The position requires the ability to function with a high level of organizational skill to manage schedules, projects, and events.
