ESSENTIAL ROLE
The Communications Coordinator is a full-time, grant funded position for the Tow Youth Justice Institute (TYJI) at the University of New Haven. The Communications Coordinator will support the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives to raise public awareness of our organization, and help align communications strategies with development needs by executing and monitoring communications strategies. This position also serves as editor of the TYJI newsletter and website manager.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Write and produce content to support internal and external communications efforts, including:

Brochures
Press releases
enews content
Blogs
Issue briefs
Op-Ed
Media advisories
Press releases
Social Media
Tracking and reporting analytics on communications campaigns including social media platforms and online presence
Assess and report on the effectiveness of communication strategies
Research strategies to expand reach and additional audiences
Recommend techniques to improve communications
Coordinate meetings, press conferences, and presentations
Organize and oversee events
Work with staff to ensure that all materials meet TYJI and University branding
Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices
Plan press conferences and other promotional events to help keep the organization top of mind
Assist with other external and internal communications duties as needed
Collaborate and work with TYJI staff and students
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
5+ years experience in a communications or marketing role or related experience
Bachelor?s Degree in Marketing, Communications or related subject/concentration
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
Ability to work in fast paced environment
An analytical mind and ability to think creatively
Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Knowledge of email marketing software such as Constant Contact or a similar program
Possesses knowledge of effective communication strategies
Demonstrates strong editing skills
Communicates clearly and effectively
Demonstrates knowledge of website design and html code
Experience with publishing programs like Adobe Creative Cloud
Ability to create visually compelling presentations
Knowledge of video production and editing
Exhibits proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook
Demonstrated experience in project coordination and project management
Excellent problem-solving skills and good judgment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
