Job Description: The Public Relations Department in Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in Public Relations to begin Fall of 2024.
The candidate must possess at least a Master's degree in communications or related discipline. A Ph.D. degree in mass communication, computational science, or a related field is strongly preferred (ABD considered).
The successful candidates will demonstrate a strong research agenda or significant expertise through their professional work.
The ideal candidate should be able to teach a range of courses within our curriculum, including classes on public relations writing, content optimization, public relations principles, public relations research, ethics, public relations campaigns, leadership and management, and diversity in PR. Additionally, candidates will have opportunities to teach subjects that reflect their specific expertise.
Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in using data and visual analytics to address public relations opportunities and challenges in today's communication environment.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have teaching experience or a consistent and prominent record of research and publications in public relations areas, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Entertainment/sports/fashion public relations
Financial communications and investor relations
Risk or crisis communication
Corporate communication
Political public relations
International public relations
The chosen candidate is expected to facilitate collaborative research within the department, across the Newhouse School, and within the larger academic community.

Responsibilities: This is a tenure-track position. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to bring national and/or global visibility to the School through creative activity and/or academic scholarship, such that they become recognized as experts in the field of public relations. This faculty member will also be expected to perform a variety of service duties, including academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students, school and university committee work, and community engagement.
This faculty member will teach five classes in an academic year. Course responsibilities will be based on the professor's areas of expertise, and might include public relations and social media, public relations research, content optimization, PR writing, PR campaign, PR Leadership and Management, or other topics the candidate brings to the position.
This faculty member will also:
Promote synergies between faculty members, departments, and schools at the University
Look for ways to integrate and enhance scholarship and initiatives based at the school's main campus and LA and NYC satellite programs.
Develop ongoing relationships and initiatives with leading entertainment companies
Promote the School's international reputation in the industry
Assist in keeping department colleagues abreast of creative and industry trends
