The Deputy Director of SCEPA works with the Director to ensure the successful realization of all financial, operational, and programmatic objectives to achieve the centerâ™s mission and theory of change. The Deputy Director reports to the Director and manages the Center and its staff, which is undergoing significant growth.
The candidate will streamline and optimize processes, build and strengthen partnerships & coalitions to leverage SCEPAâ™s effectiveness, including targeted reporters, non-profits, foundations, elected officials, other New School collaborators, and proactively address risks and opportunities. The ideal candidate will be flexible, have good judgement, superb organizational and interpersonal skills, and experience communicating with external and internal stakeholders. They will also have experience in policy making at the state, city, or federal level and experience working with traditional media, including success eliciting coverage. The position requires working with senior researchers to interject questions of relevance for research.

Strategic Planning and Project Administration
Work with the Director and Research Head to establish the Centerâ™s main priorities.
Set an agenda to accomplish goals, including needs for fundraising, research projects, public outreach, coalition-building, and targeted events. Includes setting and reviewing benchmarks.
Lead the financial and operational efforts to achieve established priorities.
Manage and overall workflow of work teams, including supervising and setting deadlines and deliverables for existing SCEPA projects.
Develop, oversee, and maintain policies and procedures for effectively managing the Institute's personnel, operational assets, and works-in-progress.
Operations and Budget Management
Establish strategic and budgetary needs, including hiring staff.
Manage Centerâ™s budget, including grants, contracts, consultants and vendors.
Coordinate fundraising support and strategy with university development team and university officers.
Develop and maintain annual budgets in accord with budgets submitted to and approved by grant makers and collaborate with divisional and university budget officials on grants support and reporting.
Supervise the centerâ™s communications and writing team.
Lead communications for a new center, the NY RDRC, a partnership between SCEPA and CUNY.
Position both SCEPA and RDRC as premier research centers in their respective fields.
Implement comprehensive communications program for both centers, inserting outreach goals in project planning and targeted press outreach.
Manage, maintain and promote three websites.
Create and promote content and visibility.
Establish NSSR Economics faculty as thought leaders by promoting research in public affairs arena.
Manage and facilitate creating visuals, infographics and video for research and policy projects.
Manage, maintain, and grow branded social media tools, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
5+ years of related experience.
Experience in or knowledge of policy making at the state, city, or federal level.
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Strong project management skills and adaptability.
Ability to use judgment, work independently, and take proactive approach to driving work.
Prior event and office coordination experience a plus.
Experience working with traditional media, including success eliciting coverage.
