The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Reporting to the Senior Director of SIPA's Career Advancement Center, the Director plays a critical role in the delivery of comprehensive career services to a diverse population of over 1400 students across seven academic degree programs. As a member of a team of career services professionals, the Director is centrally involved in event planning and execution, student advising, communications initiatives, and management of career education activities. To perform this critical role, the School seeks a professional with experience assessing career service needs, and designing, planning and delivering targeted, sensitive and effective programming.

Generates ideas for, and plans, executes, and staffs a variety of events including networking workshops, Career Series events specific to academic concentrations (panels and two networking receptions per year), the Washington, DC Career Conference (employer site visits, networking reception, and informational interviews held over three days in January); and more, including scheduling. overseeing event registration, day-of event management, staff delegation and assignments, and other tasks as needed. Develops and administers surveys to students and alumni and utilizes this data to improve future events or introduce new programming initiatives.
As a member of the Student Relations team, provides individual and group advisement to graduate students on a high volume of resume and cover letter requests for critique. Individually advise students and alumni on a broad range of career development skills.
In collaboration with the Senior Director, co-supervises all external communications and outreach to current students and alumni (social media announcements; bi-weekly newsletter; website guidelines, etc.). Co-manages the update and ongoing maintenance of archives of resources on the SIPA Connect platform and the CAC website. Assists in processing Curricular Practical Training (CPT) requests. Manages the annual reporting process.
Works closely with the Director of Executive MPA and Alumni Career Services on the planning and execution of an extensive slate of virtual Career Series events staged each semester.
Partners with student groups, including the SIPA Student Association (SIPASA), to facilitate the development of new career events and disseminates approximately $1,500 in co-sponsorship funds. Coordinates regular meetings between SIPASA representatives and the Executive Director.
With the Executive Director, reconciles annual office budget of $????????220,000, and attends quarterly review meetings with the Senior Associate Dean and the Assistant Director of Business Operations. Serves as primary liaison with the SIPA Business Office and advises staff on related protocols. Responsible for the Office???s Purchasing Card and compliance with policies governing its use; duties include reviewing staff purchasing requests and validating expenditures on a monthly basis.
Manages all student staff, including Program Assistants and Work Study employees.
Directs all logistics and action plans for monthly Professional Development Task Force meetings, including recruitment of a comprehensive membership (staff, student, faculty) and other duties as determined by meeting outcomes.
Evaluates 15-20 applications annually for fellowships and summer internship funding as part of a university-wide review committee.
Performs related duties as requested or assigned.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 3 years of related experience in assessing career service needs, and designing, planning and delivering targeted, sensitive and effective programming.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment is essential.
Must be self-motivated and a self-starter with a strong attention to detail.
Excellent computer skills essential, including proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills necessary, including ability to interact professionally, effectively and responsibly with a diverse population of students, faculty, employers and others with a positive attitude and excellent problem-solving capacity.
Must be available evenings and weekends during events.
4 to 6 years of related experience highly preferred
Master's degree in a related field, such as education administration, counseling, or international or public affairs strongly preferred.
Experience in counseling, advisement, teaching or training strongly preferred.
