AVLF’s First Senior Communications Director
AVLF is seeking an experienced and dynamic Communications Director to lead and execute the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (AVLF) communications strategies and initiatives. Director of Communications is a newly-created position reporting to the Executive Director of AVLF and serving on the organization’s executive leadership team. Candidates must: understand communications, fundraising and audience differentiation; appreciate the issues AVLF seeks to influence and commit to respectful, authentic, integrated content. Communication Director's Responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Communications Strategy: Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive communications plan that aligns with AVLF’s mission, values, and programmatic goals. Establish clear objectives and performance metrics to measure the success of communication efforts.
- Brand Management: Manage and enhance AVLF’s brand identity and positioning. Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels and materials.
- Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers. Develop and distribute press releases, media kits, and other materials to proactively promote AVLF’s initiatives and events. Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and manage crisis communications when necessary.
- Digital and Social Media: Lead the digital communication efforts, including managing the organization's website, blog, and social media platforms. Create and curate engaging content for online channels to increase brand visibility and engage with the target audience. Analyze digital engagement metrics to optimize content and campaigns for maximum impact.
- Content Development: Oversee the creation of various communication materials, including newsletters, annual reports, case studies, and promotional materials. Collaborate with program directors and subject matter experts to produce accurate and compelling content. Ensure that all content aligns with AVLF’s messaging and objectives.
- Crisis Communications: Develop crisis communications plan and act as AVLF’s spokesperson during times of crisis, ensuring accurate and timely communications to AVLF stakeholders.
- Internal Communication: Facilitate effective internal communication within AVLF, ensuring that all staff members are well-informed about organizational developments and initiatives.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Nurture relationships with donors, partners, volunteers, law firms and other stakeholders to strengthen their connection to AVLF. Develop targeted communication strategies to effectively engage different stakeholder groups and cultivate their support.
- Team Leadership and Development: Manage a team of communication professionals and consultants providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages creativity and continuous improvement.
- Measurement and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for communication initiatives and regularly evaluate their effectiveness. Generate comprehensive reports on communication metrics, providing insights and recommendations for ongoing improvement.
The Director of Communications will bring many of the following professional qualities and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit communications, including leadership roles.
- Proven ability to develop and execute successful communication strategies across various channels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools, social media platforms, content management systems, and analytics tools.
- Experience in crisis communication and media relations.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to align communication initiatives with organizational goals.
- Creative mindset and a passion for storytelling that drives engagement and support.
Compensation – $90K to $110K.
AVLF Benefits Package – At AVLF we understand that we cannot compete with the salary scales of many private sector jobs. That is why we provide a very competitive benefits package.
