Position Summary
The Director of Academics is a member of the leadership team and provides administrative and strategic oversight in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best educational programs and services for all students; responsible for the implementation and completion of short and long-term educational plans; responsible to lead the growth and development of educational services throughout the school; maintains close day-to-day supervision/interaction with level directors and assigned administrators; combines strategic thinking and strong execution skills across all education content areas and works within the policies, regulations and objectives outlined by the Head of School; will ensure that effective education management practices are in place and used across all grade levels.
Primary Responsibilities
Instructional and Program Oversight
Oversee and assure the development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive integrated curriculum across all grade levels (Toddler through Grade 6)
Implement and oversee formal assessments of student progress and performance
Analyze data collected from assessments to monitor student growth and to assist in review of curriculum
Provide structure for periodic measurement and evaluation of the curriculum across all subject areas
Monitor and effectively interpret the latest research, trends and development in all areas of education
Apply research and best practices to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality instruction aligned with standards
Cultivate consistency among staff in enforcing the school-wide objectives and policies
Ensure that the necessary time, resources, materials, and technology to support educational goals are available
Develop, oversee and assess curriculum and program-based events
Provide regular communication with parents regarding curriculum and events, as well as manage and respond to parent concerns
In consultation with Preschool and Elementary Directors, monitor student progress and proactively engage teachers and parents when concerns arise
Lead next school placement
Staff Support and Supervision
Oversee and support Preschool and Elementary Directors, as well as After School Coordinator
With Head of School, assist Preschool and Elementary Directors and After School Coordinator with setting and meeting annual goals
Oversee professional growth, development, evaluation and retention of teaching faculty with support from Preschool and Elementary Directors
Solicit professional development needs from Preschool and Elementary Directors and faculty
In collaboration with Preschool and Elementary Directors, plan and provide professional development which addresses the identified staff needs, supports program’s goals, and focuses on student achievement
With Preschool and Elementary Directors, develop awareness of faculty practices, classroom culture and effectiveness by conducting informal and formal classroom observations and implement educator evaluation process
Encourage and support the development and implementation of innovative instructional programs to achieve identified need
Oversee and Coordinate Faculty Recruitment:
Collaborate with Preschool and Elementary Directors to prepare, review, and revise job descriptions and post open positions
With Preschool and Elementary Director gather and share candidate assessments and recommendations with Head of School
Communicate new hires with school community
Oversee onboarding of new faculty
Academic Liaison and Community Relations
Collaborate with leadership team to advance and support admissions and development efforts
Work with Director of Finance and Head of School to ensure alignment between annual budget and academic programs
Support the After School Coordinator to achieve programmatic and financial objectives
Actively support the mission, vision and promotion of Park Street School to the internal and external community
Communicate curriculum, instructional practices, and new initiatives to parents and the community
Other duties and responsibilities as defined by the Head of School
Requirements and Qualifications
Master’s Degree
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a supervisory/administrative capacity
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a classroom teacher
Reflective practitioner who demonstrates continued growth professionally
Experience using data and research to drive decision making
Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
Collaborative leadership style - committed to work collaboratively with administration, teachers, students, and parents
Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Evening and weekend availability to support special events
Compensation
This is a full-time position
Salary is commensurate with experience, with a very competitive benefit package
