DPSS combines Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint operations to provide a safe and secure environment for students, faculty and staff while improving their overall quality of life. DPSS uses its blended service model to meet the needs of our community through partnerships across the university and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. With more than 500 employees across 12 departments, DPSS operations include an array of services from community engagement, safety programming and training to emergency planning and preparedness, and safety and security.
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, the Associate Director will develop and implement strategies to support operational programs and channels. From executive and internal communications to media relations, you will partner with the Director, to achieve specific goals, and lead special projects designed to expand awareness of DPSS services while measuring overall effectiveness. You will also serve as leader-in-charge in the Director's absence. This is a hybrid position, however will need to be available as operationally necessary.

You will provide daily leadership and training for team members ( for example: content specialists, temporary employees, work study students) and manage independent contractors, consultants, suppliers and vendors related to marketing and communication projects
You will be responsible for communications to support department-owned channels, including the web site, social media, emergency notification systems and work with collaborating campus organizations
You will develop messaging, promotional campaigns, and communication strategies including those supporting emergency and crisis communications
You will lead the development of compelling content and campaign assets (emails, presentations, case studies, white papers, articles, collateral materials, video) including the cultivation of DPSS brand identity (logos, imagery, taglines, and other brand attributes)
You will build measures and improve communication, event programming and delivery through data-informed approach, including customer feedback and lessons learned, and industry best practices
You will lead media-related programming including DPSS press conferences, press visits, conferences, and responsible for post-event reporting
You will be responsible for standard operating procedures and guidelines, systems, and best practices specific to marketing operations and conduct market research and competitive analyses reports to inform communications planning
You will provide reports related to overall communication channels performance and level of engagement with promotional campaigns and special projects

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, three years of relevant progressively responsible leadership and work experience in public or private sector communications or marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with presentations and writing
Demonstrated experience with a variety of communication and web-based platforms
Experience working collaboratively and communicating with others
Experience working on multiple projects requiring coordination and high levels of confidentiality
