Under the leadership of the Senior Director, Annual Giving, the Assistant Director, Annual Giving oversees the UCI Fund's telemarketing program and student philanthropy programming, and assists with various communications, events, and fundraising efforts. This role also collaborates with Advancement staff and campus partners to aid in successful fundraising and provides regular updates regarding program statistics and progress toward goals. In addition to managing these programs, the Assistant Director assists with communications, including but not limited to email, mail, social media, and text-to-give, staffs a variety of events in partnership with other University Advancement offices, and performs administrative tasks related to Annual Giving fundraising, pledge fulfillment, gift acknowledgement, and stewardship. Experience with telemarketing and higher education philanthropy is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate has strong leadership and managerial skills, particularly those effective with student workers; is a clear and effective communicator; able to analyze variable data sets to devise sound strategies; and enjoys fostering collaboration across departments.

Required:
Preferred but not required: - Experience in fundraising and telemarketing sufficient to manage telemarketing program, train and supervise callers. - Demonstrated working knowledge of the principles and practices of development and fundraising in higher education, with an emphasis on annual giving and alumni relations. - Experience with Automated Telemarketing software
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of management concepts, principles and applicable policies. Leadership / management skills, including skills to lead, direct, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff. Ability to lead and supervise a team of student employees, including organizing workflow to accomplish established objectives, delegating responsibility, training, coaching, evaluating subordinate effectiveness and administering necessary disciplinary action. Good written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships within all organizational levels and outside constituencies. Skills to meet predetermined goals and objectives including securing gifts. Project management, critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills. Skills to implement and execute programs including skills to achieve predetermined goals and objectives within budget and time constraints. Skills to analyze, evaluate, and improve programs / services. Ability to be flexible in working independently as well as collaboratively with Advancement and faculty and staff to achieve defined goals. Ability to work effectively under time constraints and performance pressures in order to meet nightly, weekly, and monthly fundraising goals. Proven ability to use MS Office and database programs. Knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Strong experience with computers to operate automated telemarketing system.
Preferred:
Working knowledge of fundraising, donor and public relations principles, concepts, procedures and techniques, including identification, cultivation, and knowledge of solicitation strategies. Basic knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc. Knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure. Working knowledge of basic functions of fundraising software and CRM software.
Special Conditions Required:
Will need to travel periodically to multiple University Advancement offices to meet essential job responsibilities as call center is a satellite location. Ability to work evening hours regularly and weekend hours, as well as occasional holidays when necessary. May be required to drive on occasion in order to perform the routine or essential job responsibilities for the position. Must possess a valid California driver license and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program
