About the Opportunity:
The Communications Manager is primarily responsible for managing all organic social media activities including writing and producing content, tracking data, and analyzing performance for the D'Amore-McKim School of Business (DMSB) as a part of a comprehensive, school-wide content strategy. They will help inform, design, and execute this strategy. They are responsible for external social content creation (including community storytelling, faculty research, college reputation, and organic prospective student content) and dissemination of all organic content across all channels with the goal of audience engagement and brand awareness. This work will also include creating new social channels as needed, examining existing social channels for effectiveness, changing strategy as necessary, and following, tracking, and analyzing success using social data. Also, they will create, incorporate, maintain, and evolve brand, style, and use guidelines for DMSB social channels.
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Undergraduate Marketing, the Communications Manager is a member of the DMSB Communications team and will focus on content creation for external and prospective audiences. They will manage a full-time video co-op student to produce video content optimized for social media in addition to other school video needs. They are responsible for serving as a liaison between DMSB and central university media relations and news teams to promote our faculty experts, thought leaders and general school storytelling. They will ensure external-facing dynamic web content remains up to date (homepage, events, news posts) and will additionally support broad-based school communications strategies as they evolve including brand materials, static web content, media ranking processes, and other publications.
Responsibilities:
Plan, create, and manage organic content, activity, and strategy across all social media platforms that's engaging, audience specific, and draws users back to the DMSB website for SEO, yield, and reputational brand awareness; identify KPIs, monitor analytics, and create reports to measure success and engagement
Manage video co-op student and oversee video strategy and multimedia production
Serve as an internal subject matter/social media expert and provide trainings/advice to colleagues as needed
Develop and maintain strong relationships with university media relations and news teams to support media/reputational PR opportunities, and secure coverage for DMSB
Create and maintain faculty expertise web presence/search function; collaborate cross-functionally with DMSB colleagues to support story development and write faculty/thought leadership and program-related articles
Ensure externally facing dynamic web content management, including updating the homepage, events, and news posts
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or a related field and three to six years of related work experience. Previous experience in higher education is a plus. They will have professional experience with social media management, engagement, data tracking, analysis, and reporting as well as strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills. The ideal candidate will have an appreciation and deep understanding that the social media ecosystem is evolving, and they are driven to stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices. Technical savvy and experience with web content management systems is required. Outstanding writing, English grammar, and spelling for the purpose of composing outwardly facing communications are a must. They will be a quick learner and a team player with attention to detail. Being highly organized is necessary to manage a diverse array of projects at any given time. They will take initiative and execute tasks independently while maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism. A high level of emotional intelligence, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels to build consensus among diverse populations, including faculty is vital. A positive attitude and sense of humor is essential. Experience with Sprout, WordPress, Microsoft 365 products, Adobe Creative Suite, and Mailchimp is a plus.
