Work Conditions: Employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Employee must be able to ascend and descend ladders and walk or stand for extended periods.
Duties of Position: Provides technical support to the Manager of Environmental Health and Safety (Manager EH&S) and the Director of Risk Management. Support and assist the Manager of EH&S in the implementation and monitoring of all aspects of environmental health and workplace safety for the campus community. Supports and assists the Director of Risk Management in Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Management.
Performs safety inspections of college property for unsafe conditions which may lead to personal injury or property damage and implements corrections via work orders.
Manages the online training database to ensure employees are up to date in required OSHA and general safety training and creates new training content when applicable.
Assists the Palatine Fire Department on routine inspections and put in work orders for issues that need correction or work with the Manager of EH&S and various Departmental Staff on the correction of issues.
Assists in publishing updates to the “Environmental Health & Safety Procedure Manual” to the department webpage and other locations as needed.
Works with campus wide Building Evacuation Personnel Coordinators yearly to keep their plans up to date.
Performs office ergonomic evaluations and consultations for workstations for any college employees.
Manages the annual safety shoe program and works with members of Facilities Management on yearly shoe orders.
Assists with accident investigations and follow up on correction of any identified hazards that created or contributed to the accident.
Assists in coordination of the College’s Return to Work Program, in working with departments in the identification of work tasks and activities.
Performs indoor air quality investigations using a TSI Q-track Indoor Air Monitor.
Performs respiratory fit testing for Harper Employees when requested.
Attend and take minutes at all Risk Management meetings and assist with the tracking of the correction to identified safety concerns.
Assist in the training, coordination, and performance of campus evacuation drills.
Assists the Manager of EH&S in keeping required environmental, OSHA, and training records up to date. Including but not limited to waste manifest and asbestos abatement activities.
Manages the Job Hazard Analysis Program by creating new documents, training staff, and tracking assignments.
Manages the Fleet Safety records and provides employees with training and tracks all Authorized Drivers for Harper College.
Assists with filing insurance claims into the online reporting system.
Assists with creating Certificates of Insurance when requested.
Assists the Manager of EH&S in environmentally sustainable initiatives and documentation.
Ensures standards for good public relations between State agencies and Harper College are maintained.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements: Associate degree with a major in safety, environmental health, industrial hygiene, occupational health or a related field required.
Experience Requirements: 1-year experience working in Environmental Health & Safety preferred. Experience in use of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications required. Some website design experience is preferred. Excellent verbal, communication, and organizational skills.
