Carnegie Mellon University's College of Engineering is hiring a Director of Research Partnerships to join their team. The successful candidate will provide government and corporate related research strategy development, pursuit, acquisition, support and coordination functions under the direction of the Chief Partnership Officer (CPO) for the College of Engineering. This role will have a particular focus on Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and Engineering and Public Policy (EPP) related research. This role will also coordinate closely with the University's central Government and Corporate Relations Teams.
This position will also be a key team member, working in close collaboration with the central CMU Government Relations Team, central Corporate Relations Team, and Vice President of Research to develop and execute a strategy for enhancing the ability of College of Engineering faculty to compete for research awards. This position will be a vital contributor to an aggressive strategy to ensure our faculty can play a direct role in shaping the national and global agenda.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Developing strategies to improve faculty engagement with government and corporate partners. Including developing strategic plans with the college and university administration that could lead to innovative partnership opportunities and successful pursuits.
Tracking and identifying opportunities for CIT faculty to engage in advisory boards and other leadership activities.
Designing and executing strategies for improving faculty engagement with specific CEE and EPP related government agencies and capacity building sessions.
Working with CPO and targeted faculty to support initiatives to attract center level CEE and EPP funding.
Developing and implement strategies for tracking emerging trends in agency program funding and initiative development and then working with our faculty to align with these opportunities.
Working as a core member of the government relations and corporate relations teams to align policy level engagement with agency strategies to enhance the ability of our faculty to set research agendas.
Working with the government or corporate relations team on the planning and execution of events and briefings that support a focused advocacy strategy.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills
Strong understanding of how the R&D functions within CEE and EPP related agencies, and how R&D interfaces with corporations and universities
Ability to assimilate and understand a broad range of engineering technologies and markets
Understanding of basic intellectual property and contract engagement principals
Ability comfortably interact and engage with both senior management and senior technical leadership within government agencies and corporations
Knowledge of the principles of research funding, fundraising and the ability to integrate with and support the broader institutional partners
Ability to visualize, understand and articulate the opportunities for partners
Ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and tactical engagement opportunities
Ability to work well within teams and within a highly matrixed and fluid organization
Knowledge of business and marketing techniques and the ability to apply these principles effectively
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in science-related field required
At least 6 years of prospect solicitation and management
Experience in working in and/or with CEE and EPP related federal agencies.
Strong communication and writing skills and capacity to work in a team.
Strong self-starter with ability to proactively engage with diverse partners both inside and outside of CMU
