Under the supervision of the Appropriate Administrator and the Lead, the Associate Director, Athletic Communications develops, promotes, and distributes news, stories, and information concerning the University's intercollegiate athletic program (Baseball and other sports as assigned).
Responsible for the creation and dissemination of information on and through core communications.
Manage Social Media Operations - Produce timely content; manage social media campaigns, run Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Accounts.
Day-to-day office duties including monitoring and updating social media status of various accounts and on various platforms, create website content, updating files, answering phones, texts, other communications and preparing correspondence.
Promote sports teams, coaches and student-athletes through campaigns, speaking engagements, and other events including but not limited to basketball and baseball opener events, Hall of Fame Weekend, etc.
Engage in advance planning, first steps and daily procedures for crisis management.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Equivalent to three years of responsible experience editing articles for publication in commercial trade, professional or other publications which demonstrates possession of the skills and abilities needed to perform in this position.
Strong communication techniques in various social media platforms. Desktop publishing software experience, preferably In Design and Photoshop. Background in layout design and editing. Excellent writing, editing and publication skills. Experience in statistical preparation. Strong verbal communication ability, including knowledge of interview techniques.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in communications, journalism, or a related field required. Three or more years of experience in collegiate athletic communications preferred. Experience in statistical preparation.
Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).
Licenses / Certificates
California driver's license preferred.
Public Affairs/Communications Specialist II
The salary range for this classification is $3,761 to $6,803 per month. Target salary set at $4,000 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
