Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Director of Development for the School of Dentistry Advancement team. The primary responsibility of this position is to develop and implement strategies for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals, corporations and foundations for major gifts to support the School's educational, research and patient care programs. The position will work with the Department Chairs and others within the Departments/Divisions to manage the planning and execution of appropriate cultivation and stewardship special events, including planning and hosting visits by donors and their representatives. The Director of Development is expected to communicate with the Office of Gift and Biographical Records to ensure that the donor database is maintained efficiently, and that all donors are appropriately reminded of their commitments.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Development within the School of Dentistry.

Responsibilities:

• Cultivate, solicit, and steward an assigned portfolio of prospective donors

• Provide staff assistance to the Executive Director of Development and school leadership

• Supervise the Assistant Director of Development and the reunion-giving program

• Participate in University Advancement and School of Dentistry events

• To implement strategic fundraising activities focused on acquiring major gifts

• To develop and implement strategies to effectively solicit and close a defined number of major gifts within a specified timeframe for a specific school, college, or unit on campus

• To create intentional meetings with unqualified and/or qualified prospects to build and maintain a portfolio of high capacity/net worth prospects

• To effectively collaborate with faculty, colleagues and staff both within their unit and across campus to maximize philanthropic efforts

• Travel may be required for this position.
