Job Description:
The Associate Director, Brown University Sports Foundation will be responsible for managing athletics-focused programming that provides high-quality engagement, cultivation, and stewardship for alumni, parents, donors, and volunteers to deepen their engagement with and increase their philanthropic support of the University.Â
The Associate Director will comprehensively manage the planning and execution of strategic Athletics engagement while collaboratively partnering with colleagues in the Sports Foundation, Regional Development and other fundraising units, Alumni Relations, etc. through cross-cutting partnerships. The Associate Director will also serve as the main liaison for the Advancement Events and, when appropriate, University Events teams working closely with them while planning and executing cross-cutting events involving the greater University community at the highest level.Â
Furthermore, the Associate Director leads the BUSF signature programming that involves University leaders on behalf of the Division of Advancement; The Associate Director comprehensively plans and executes strategic, signature events including large-scale dedications and milestones celebrations for large alumni communities that require the involvement of University leadership, including the President and the Chancellor.
This position will oversee the management of 5-7 individual Sport Associations and be responsible to partner with fundraisers and head coaches on the cultivation and solicitation of leadership-level gifts ($10,000-$100,000+) to support team fundraising initiatives that approach $1M annually. The incumbent will also direct efforts through high-touch alumni and parent volunteer management, and work to identify alumni and parent prospects within the community of each assigned sport. They will ensure that these Sports Associations achieve their annual metrics for current use support, capital, and endowment campaign efforts.
This position requires a high level of organization, and logistical management of multiple competing priorities while engaging with internal and external constituents at the highest level. Adherence to division policies and best practices is expected. Â
This position is based in Brown Universityâ™s Providence, RI office.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum 5 years experience in a related field such as development, sales, customer relations, communications and public relations, marketing, community organizer, events planning, etc.
Required Qualifications
Exceptional organizational and planning skills, flexibility, initiative; and the ability to initiate, collaborate, implement, monitor and advance a strategic plan that supports the activities of the Advancement Division.Â
Experience planning and implementing events is required. Demonstrated ability to drive multiple projects from conception to completion.
Superior interpersonal skills with proven ability to successfully interact and collaborate with varied constituencies in a professional manner, exhibiting excellent written and oral communication skills, team-building skills, and demonstrating tact, poise and diplomacy while working with a wide variety of personalities. Ability and comfort in meeting and interacting with individuals of considerable social status and affluence is required.
Proficient knowledge of electronic mail and calendars, the Windows environment, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social networking, donor databases, etc.
Preferred QualificationsÂ
Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting is preferred; direct experience with fundraising, volunteer management and knowledge of Brown University is highly desired.
Experience and proven success with handling multiple, large projects simultaneously.
