Description
The WEST PLAINS COUNTRY CLUB in West Plains, MO is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent to manage the operation and maintenance of the West Plains Country Club. This position oversees all phases of golf maintenance, agronomic operations, cost control, personnel management, property and asset management, budgeting, financial management, public relations, scheduling and maintenance of irrigation systems, pesticide applications, compliance of regulatory issues, and enforce all course rules, regulations, and policies for staff.
Examples of Duties
Oversees all phases of golf course maintenance, including agronomic operations, managing cost, and supervises staff.
Works closely with the General Manager and Director of Operations to ensure the golf course operates in a fiscally responsible and professional manner.
Plans, directs and participates in the construction and maintenance of golf course facilities.
Designs landscape plans, oversees the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, and native areas on the facility grounds, and manages the water management plan.
Recruits, supervises, and retains maintenance staff, conducts employee performance evaluations, provides technical, operational, and safety training for employees, oversees subordinates in proper and safe operations and maintenance of mechanical and power equipment, and supervises all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations including payroll, supplies, chemicals and fertilizers.
Administers and enforces all course rules, regulations, and policies for staff. Supports and assists with quarterly golf committee meetings. Possesses the ability to work autonomously and exhibit proactive problem-solving skills. Assists with the development of an annual operating budget and plans maintenance and capital improvement projects.
Schedules maintenances practices around play and outings to maximize efficiency and minimize disruption to golfers.
Maintains accurate records and completes required monthly reporting. Orders parts, supplies, and equipment as needed.
Coordinates snow removal and winter maintenance actives.
Typical Qualifications
Requires an accredited Associate Degree in turf management, agronomy, horticulture, plant science or soil science and 3-5 years’ experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or crew leader preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical: Ability to work in extreme weather conditions; lift, carry, push and pull up to 100 pounds stand for extended periods; and operate various parks equipment including: backhoes, loaders, bobcat, tandem dump truck, brush hog, skid loader, ditch witch, and trenching equipment.
Mental: Ability to be on call 24 hours a day for emergency purposes; follow directions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of safe use, mixing, and application of chemicals and commercial products, use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance, as well as the game of golf, golf rules, and methods of play.
Skills in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating, and motivating personnel, as well as interpersonal skills to resolve conflicts and work with supervisors, employees, members, and the general public.
Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance and repair assignments, as well as the ability and knowledge to lay out irrigation patterns, drainage plans, and construct tees and/or greens.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge and understanding of golf course maintenance, athletic field maintenance, vehicle and equipment upkeep, and building/grounds maintenance and construction. Must have the knowledge to preform basic computer functions and special software applications, ability to research and compile detailed list of necessary materials, supplies and equipment and initiate procurement in accordance with city purchasing guidelines.
