JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant DEI Officer is responsible for recruitment, retention, and assisting with implementing strategies to support the College's core institutional values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This position will provide administrative support to the Office for Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote DEI events and programs on and off-campus to benefit faculty, staff, students, and communities served by St. Clair County Community College.
Assist the Chief DEI Officer with the facilitation of the DEI Mentorship Program.
Coordinate educational and DEI student development activities. Activities include but are not limited to workshops, recreational activities, networking opportunities, professional development opportunities, etc.
Keep abreast of current research on the experiences of historically underrepresented and underserved students in higher education.
Recruit, train, and support peer and professional mentors to facilitate participants' career, social, and cultural growth and development.
Assist with advising efforts as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Under the supervision of the Chief DEI Officer.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree required. One to two years of experience in a college setting is preferred. Prior work experience with underserved and underrepresented populations preferred. Excellent public relations skills, including an ability to work effectively with people of diverse ages, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Continuous learner, strong work ethic, energetic, sense of urgency, and "can-do" attitude.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills.
Computer software experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents.
