This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Planner & Accommodations Coordinator to contribute meaningfully to these priorities.
Leveraging your school board planning experience, and your Urban Planning degree or equivalent background, you will provide technical planning expertise and support to various DDSB departments, from the creation of enrollment forecasts to land-use planning, to drive the effectiveness and efficiency of DDSB operations. Your goals will be to support the organization’s strategic objectives and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and legislative standards, as well as Ministry directives.
As a Senior Planner and Accommodations Coordinator, you will oversee the implementation and administration of the Education Development Charges (EDC) program, including the collection of funds to purchase school sites in new development areas, and manage both current and long-term accommodation information data for various internal and external stakeholders. You will also be expected to manage the Ministry of Education’s Pupil Accommodation Review process (school closures and consolidations) for the DDSB, as set out in the Board Policy and Procedure #7113 and Ministry of Education Guidelines.
This is a highly analytical role for a technically proficient Planner whose strengths include knowledge of GIS, school planning and MS Office software, and skills in research, statistical modelling, data analytics, trend analysis and report writing.
Qualifications
Your profile as a qualified Senior Planner and Accommodations Coordinator will include:
Completion of a post-secondary university degree in Urban Planning or a related field, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
5 years’ experience in the following areas:
School Board Planning
Municipal/Provincial legislation
Communications (report writing, public relations, public speaking)
GIS software (ESRI).
3 – 5 years’ experience with Ministry/Board Policies/Procedures/Standards/Durham Region, preferred.
Oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of statistical modelling, data analytics, trend analysis, and research methods.
Knowledge of various emerging trends and practices.
Knowledge of site planning, transportation, architecture and planning law.
Experience with Microsoft Office programs, GIS Systems (ESRI), and School Planning Software (SPS).
Sound judgement, analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Ability to work well under tight timelines.
ASSET:
Membership with one or all of the following: Ontario Professional Planners Institute, Canadian Institute of Planners, or Ontario Association of School Board Officials (OASBO).
Salary Range: $87,929 - $102,878 per year
