Summary Position The director of internal communications works with university leadership and employees throughout the university to foster a culture of open, informative and productive communications. As a member of the Office of University Communications, the director will also create and execute a strategic, cohesive and sustainable internal communications plan that supports and improves communications efforts undertaken at all levels by university offices or departments. Working with the Office of Human Resources (HR), the director will be responsible for creating and implementing a unified HR communications strategy, integrating all HR functions-benefits, compensation, talent acquisition, etc. Working closely with the assistant vice president for strategic communications and media relations, the director also will create and coordinate the production of content for internal and external audiences across a range of platforms including the university's news site, Today at Elon, social media, digital newsletters and other print and digital platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Work with university leadership and employees throughout the university to foster a culture of open and productive communication by creating and executing a strategic, cohesive, prioritized and sustainable plan to support and improve internal communications efforts undertaken by university offices and departments.
Serve as an expert source and thought partner for the campus community, encourage and creating better and more effective internal communications. This includes identifying opportunities for efficiency, promoting brand consistency and fostering closer connections between communicators.
Ensure the appropriate use of current technologies for effective communications, monitor communications trends, and develop strategies that continue building stronger connections among all members of the internal and external community. The director will be the 'go-to' resource for internal communications strategy and execution.
Work closely with the Office of Human Resources to develop and execute a communications strategy that highlights the work environment for current employees and attracts prospective employees.
Assist in broader campus education efforts to help ensure faculty and staff are informed about the variety of ways to communicate with internal and external audiences.
Create and coordinate the production of internally focused content for students, faculty and staff for platforms including Today at Elon, elon.edu, digital newsletters, social media, digital signs and the university calendar.
Develop a strategy for the addition of internally focused newsletters drawing upon curated content that are designed to increase awareness of faculty, staff and student achievement and to build community.
Develop a content strategy and calendar focused on increasing the visibility of employee achievement, internal operations and community connections. This will include creating content and making updates to elon.edu pages, creating content for digital newsletters and writing articles for Today at Elon.
Support media relations efforts by identifying opportunities for earned and owned media related to areas including student, faculty and staff achievement, innovation within university programs and higher education trends.
Assess the effectiveness of internal communications efforts through the regular analysis of user-engagement data from Today at Elon, external newsletter vendors, Google Analytics and social media.
Prepare reports based on the collection and analysis of engagement data to keep university leadership informed about the effectiveness of these communications efforts.
Contribute to the elevation of the profile of the university with external audiences and support the protection and reinforcement of the institutions reputation.
Assist the assistant vice president for strategic communications and media relations with the development of proactive pitches to media and with the universitys response to incoming media requests.
Work with the assistant vice president on the universitys communications response to crises, including actively monitoring media reports and social media traffic.
Contribute to the creation and use of an annual content calendar to maximize the impact of content for the universitys publication platforms throughout the year.
Participate in regular meetings with staff from the Office of University Communications.
