The Director position will provide leadership and strategy for the university's efforts in community engagement as it seeks to become more involved in public programs, community building initiatives, coordinating of volunteerism (administrators, faculty, staff and students), building community partnerships (including partnerships with businesses and foundations), initiating or expanding partnerships with community-based organizations, making the campus more accessible to the community, and bringing the talent of the university to support research, learning and assessment in the community. This position is critical to achieving the university's Preeminence 2030, specifically Goal 1: Transformative Engagement and Goal 5: Responsive Scholarship and Impact .
The Director will:
Provide economic and community engagement professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and students.
Collaborate with students, faculty and staff on internal and external community engagement activities.
Collaborate with faculty and university leadership to uphold the collective understanding of the scholarship of engagement.
Facilitate event partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to create synergy across local and state footprint.
Take initiative in getting things done and have the ability to work independently when needed.
Be a critical thinker and problem solver.

Requirements:
A master's degree is required in public administration, community engagement, marketing, public relations, public health, education, business or any field that is related to community engagement.

Ability to design and implement systems for assessment and evaluation of economic and community engagement with internal and external economic and community engagement partners and stakeholders.
Background in development of collaborative partnerships with individuals, groups, and organizations that involve research, teaching, and service.
Proven record of acquiring funding to support programs.
Must understand the HBCU, DEIB, local community, political and higher ed cultures.
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute programs or activities involving the campus community and external organizations.
At least five years of progressively more responsible experiences related to public administration and/or community engagement preferred.
Experience in higher education preferred.
Visionary leader with a proven track record of effectively creating, managing, and developing programs involving partnerships with the community.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with minimum supervision and with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work in a team and maintain collaborative relationships.
Self-starter who has proven leadership skills.
Ability to relate to and foster relationships between academic and public organizations.
Excels in networking and establishing and sustaining relationships.
