Assistant Director of the Cornell Academy - CVM (hybrid)

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University is seeking a mission-driven Assistant Director for the newly launched Cornell Academy, a new strategic initiative to highlight and advance Cornell's continued leadership in veterinary education. This national faculty development program offered by the college's Office of Outreach in Health Professions Education will support a community of practice among veterinary educators and others in health professions education interested in developing teaching skills, programs, and curricula using a range of educational modalities for diverse learners and settings.
As a new position, the Assistant Director will work closely with the Assistant Dean for Outreach in Health Professions Education to develop and implement this innovative program. You will work to support creativity, evaluation, and scholarship in teaching and learning and help faculty integrate successful approaches into their teaching practice by organizing faculty development events and opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and conferences.
Specifically you will:
- Contribute to, guide, and expand a faculty development program with national visibility for veterinary faculty and health professions educators in the US and internationally.
- As a content expert, apply specific academic knowledge to develop and lead workshops and other programs for a national audience and serve as a consultant and advisor to faculty and faculty teams from across the country and internationally.
- Serve as a catalyst and resource to assist faculty members in achieving their full potential as teachers and educators by aiding a community of practice and peer-to-peer interaction, giving special attention to those pursuing advanced certification in the Academy's Fellows program.
- Use content expertise to design, offer and coordinate comprehensive programming for ongoing workshops and two annual conferences; advise Fellows and faculty working groups on special projects throughout the year; drive the development and implementation of the Academy's "Currents in Education' programming.
- Maintain content expertise in medical education and stay current on research trends and relevant scholarly publications. Maintain and expand a professional network with others engaged in health professions education, including, but not limited to, veterinary education. Identify content experts to provide selected programming as needs arise.
- Assist faculty in developing and implementing innovative teaching and assessment approaches in traditional and clinical settings, including educational technology, interprofessional teams, and work-based learning.
- Conduct, author, and publish scholarly work in appropriate professional journals. Seek extramural funding to support research and program activities. Advise faculty on educational research practices, and serve as a mentor for scholarly publications related to teaching.
- Represent the college by working effectively as a member of a team of faculty and staff from other institutions in the biomedical and clinical sciences to develop interprofessional programs and activities. Communicate With External audiences about faculty development opportunities through electronic newsletters, websites, meetings, etc.
- Work proactively. Collaborate with college faculty and staff in support of program goals. Seek synergy across college programs, and identify and coordinate areas of mutual interest or overlap to leverage college resources, including educational technologies, special services related to technical support, and conference planning and delivery.

Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral Degree in Medical Education, Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction or terminal degree with at least 3 years of teaching or related experience at the graduate degree level or related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
To be successful, you will need:
- Knowledge of sound pedagogical practices in health professions education, in traditional classroom settings as well as clinical environments.
- Knowledge of new instructional technologies, learning modalities, and web-based resources.
- Prior program development experience related to corporate and/or university training programs and services.
- Demonstrated experienceworking effectively with multiple and diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional engaging and interactive oral presentations and workshops.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills, along with relational, written, and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of the concepts and methodologies of effective teaching and curriculum design.
Preferred Qualifications:
* More than 5 years' experience working in the field of faculty development and professions education.
* Teaching experience at the graduate or professional degree level.
* Publication in scholarly journals related to health professions education.
